"buy the rumor, sell the news" works because ~90% of the time the news doesn't match the hype, or turns out to be disappointing, but ~10% of the time the new will be incredible and cause the price to moon even higher.

That's why it's usually best to just buy rumor/sell news because most of the time it's profitable, but if you have a strong indication that this is one of those rare times where the news is even better than expected, it'll be worth holding and making more gains
