You honestly believe some fat russian hamburglar looking motherfucker is out to improve the world using state of the art blockchain technology with his acquired philosophy PhD, fucker probably spent 4 years figuring which came first, the bigmac bottom or top bun. The absolute state these deluded linkians are in...waste of air, space and precious bandwith. Not to mention this fat sperglord spends his time doing fuck all and can't even be arsed to update his "bigdick early investors" on their slack channel or a simple status update on twitter, heck check in at a McD's every now and then to show signs of life. Was in ETH from $9, but missed out on ANS.

Nobody knows whether they will succeed with the development, although it seems likely. And we do know that if they succeed, it'll have an enormous impact on the cryptomarkets.

Coupled with the fact that they're not running a marketing campaign makes it a slam dunk. Any project that manages to claw its way up the top 100 without a single "Tweet" and one single announcement will surely blow the fuck up once a marketing campaign is launched; whether or not the product is finished.

Newfags see the lack of marketing as a problem because they want instant gratification. I see it as an advantage for assured future growth.

What do you mean? You can get it yourself and install it. The install is pretty easy. I'd like to get a couple of intel SGX cpu blades that can go in a m1000e chassis , I don't have them right now. I was waiting for SGX to mature.
https://software.intel.com/en-us/sgx
why I held off on them
https://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/02/01/sgx_secure_until_you_look_at_the_detail/

Its pretty typical of any SW/design like SGX that it has a maturing period. You won't find many serious IT heads that use anything in production that has not been around for all the bugs to be levelled out

https://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=3026930

That largely happened during 2017 but spectre and meltdown made we hold off for this years offerings . I probably will be looking at acquiring a couple in autumn.

You do know that the node SW is there and can be played with. I'm interested in writing connectors for legacy ERP built on DBs more used in commercial environments like MSSQL and Oracle, you know stuff that drives SAP, Epicor all that shit used in millions of SMEs and enterprises for purchase order, sales order, customer return, supplier return, invoicing pod etc. Smartcontracts would be fucking awesome for business

https://github.com/thodges-gh/ChainLink-Node

How much LINK is required to be a node operator?

No LINK is required in order to be a node operator. However, holding LINK on your node (commonly referred to as staking) helps with ranking your node against others. Your node will also need some LINK in order to bid on smart contracts with the penalty amount. If the node is not selected to perform the job, or the node successfully completes the job, then it can retrieve that paid penalty amount.

Wouldn’t holding millions of LINK automatically rank you to the top above the other nodes?

No, holding LINK is just one of the factors when determining a node’s ranking. Having LINK on a node helps get the node started, but there is a point of diminishing returns for how much LINK to hold.

What are the factors for ranking a node?
•Availability (uptime)
•Correctness of responses
•Total number of assigned requests
•Total number of completed requests
•Total number of accepted requests
•Average time to respond
•Amount of penalty payments
•Amount of LINK held

>> No.7697270

Is there a reward system for running a node?

You'll set your own prices (paid in LINK) for retriving data from 3rd party sources. It is not yet known how the node operator incentive fund will be used. So for now, the prices which you set on your node will be the only known form of income to node operators.

What is the process for how the LINK token is used?

When a user creates a smart contract, they'll be able to put a price (in LINK) on how much they're willing to pay for the data retrieval. Nodes will bid on those smart contracts by paying the penalty fee (in LINK) if the smart contract creator has decided to set an amount for the penalty fee. Nodes not selected will be able to withdraw their LINK that they spent on bidding. Nodes that were selected will be able to withdraw their penalty fee and rewards for data retrieval after they have submitted data which was accepted by the smart contract.

As the node returns acceptable data to the smart contract, it will be paid (in LINK) for both partial and whole (whichever is relevant) completion. For example, if an assignment is to retrieve a data point from a data provider once, then upon completion, the node would be paid for 100% of the assignment. Another example, if an assignment is to retrieve a data point from a provider every day for 30 days, then each time the node returns acceptable data to the smart contract, it will be paid as a percentage of the total assignment.

Payment for assignment completion and penalty withdrawals accumulate over time, instead of automatically being released back to the node's Ethereum address. The node operator will need to pay the gas fee in order to withdraw the accumulated LINK.

>> No.7697431

By the way this chainlink node SW was last dropped on Jan 26, 2018 and is largely so people can write connectors

so there you go.

Yes ethereum can also be used for staking but the underlying mechanism then means LINK will wind up with a price related as ethereum. and binds the LINK and Ethereum prices together, if link is cheaper to stake than ethereum why use ethereum unless it is cheaper....and why would ethereum be cheaper than link?

My take. As there is a diminishing return on link staking on one node the best return is to run several nodes leveraging the link holding on each rather than piling it into one.

>I only have 50 link. a-am I gonna make it bros?

I'd try and get at least a thousand anon I think link will have a value of 4-5$ by year end and maybe 10-20 in 2019 so no 50 link will not let you retire. That being said it could do far better, I'm a sceptical person by nature.

BTW full steps are there for running a node on AWS. I only run production SW on my own hardware but I own a datacentre in Europe so I'm probably playing a bit differently. At the moment its got 96 HP and dell blade chassis with an average of 12 blades in each and fibre sans. I supply hosting services for legacy software used by mostly small to medium business but some public sector too. Its a comfy niche. I lie the idea of chainlink bridging these kinds of legacy commercial packages with smartcontract connectors and hosting a node would fit with that and allow be to offer smartcontract node facilities to my customers

On top of that, unstoppable, trustless, automated, data-driven agreements seems like one of the biggest game-changers. If it works, it's going to create a fundamental paradigm shift in business. >don't understand why it is failing in the market
Nobody does.

Chainlink was the ONLY external crypto to develop a PoC for fucking Swift (=11k banks) and showcase it at fucking Sibos.
To give you some perspective: last June DGB mooned several hundred times just because it was ONE OF MANY tech innovations being showcased by ONE SINGLE BANK (Citibank).
And last month January DGB mooned EVEN HARDER than it had in June, based on no news whatsoever.

And that's not all. On Sibos day itself (mid-October), there was an unexpected announcement that five (5) major banks were ALSO involved in Chainlink's Sibos demo. Completely out of the blue.
So not only was Chainlink the ONLY crypto to demo at Sibos, but suddenly FIVE FUCKING BANKS were also interested enough to sign up for the demo.

This all means that Chainlink should have boosted straight into the top 10, or at least top 20 in mid-October.
After all, what the fuck does something like OMG have? McD Thailand and a couple of local banks? Laughable compared to Chainlink's Swift and many other connections.

This is why Chainlink is one massive ticking time bomb. The connections, use case, industry exposure, ... RIGHT NOW are top 3-tier, and yet Chainlink keeps dangling around the top 100.
For some reason Link is being held to a double standard compared to the rest of the market, but at some point there will come that last drop of water that will bust the dam wide open, and all of that incredible potential will explode all at once in one massive bull run. Hence the price singularity.

if it wasn't a scam and they actually had something long term to gain they'd be more active in marketing it. notice how sergey doesn't have 'chainlink' anywhere on his linkedin but proudly lists all his other business? because he doesn't want to be associated with link. why not? im sure you can figure that out for yourselves
