New paradigm edition

Popular brokers for stock trading:
Robinhood
>commission free and no minimum to open
http://www.robinhood.com

> How is it free?
Robinhood earns revenue by collecting interest on cash/securities and fees from their Robinhood Gold service

> It's been X days, why isn't my account verified yet?
Not being approved in 3 days seems to be the new norm. Nevertheless, call/email their support if you've been waiting more than that.

> When is it coming to my country?
The only "plans" are on an Australian and Chinese beta. Neither of which has gained much traction.

Interactive Brokers
>$1 commission per 100 shares. $10k minimum to open, $3k if 25 or under. Lowest margin interest. Free API access
http://www.interactivebrokers.com

TD Ameritade
>$6.95 commission per trade. No minimum to open. Fantastic data/charting through their free ThinkorSwim service

I often find myself reading very official-sounding statements that the proper term for "a decline of at least 10% from a recent high" is a "correction," but I have never seen anyone explain who named it that. What a marketing genius he or she was! Stocks are down, people are panicking in the streets, you walk into your broker's office to see how bad things have gotten, you sit down with her, and she smiles and says "good news, your stock prices have been corrected. Your stocks are all correct now. Congratulations." Look I do not know how well it works but I appreciate the effort.

Sup mate. Basically America's national debt and monetary policy influences the global economy as far as consumerism, energy with our petro dollar deal with the saudis, which in turn effects the metals and commodities as well. If people stop buying the American debt, they just raise the interest rate on that debt until people do buy it. It's a terrible situation, but as they raise rates to encourage more people to buy the debt it changes the whole board. Then you have inflation, the extra dollars being thrown into the markets. Each extra dollar printed brings the value of all the others down, its America's way of taxing the world. I'm drunk what was the question again.

That's a good amount for someone starting out. Better than throwing all your money into the pot and losing it all because you don't know what you're doing.

Robinhood will take up to 500 instantly, crediting you that amount before collecting it, so as long as you have an account with a linked bank account you could start tomorrow. If you're expecting to turn 400 into 800 by the end of the week, don't be so expectant. You're also limited on daytrades to 3 per 5 days, perform a 4th and your locked out of daytrades (buying and selling the same stock on the same day) for 90 days. Save those for volatile days to get derivatives and make easy gains.
