Popular brokers for stock trading:
Robinhood
>commission free and no minimum to open
http://www.robinhood.com

> How is it free?
Robinhood earns revenue by collecting interest on cash/securities and fees from their Robinhood Gold service

> It's been X days, why isn't my account verified yet?
Not being approved in 3 days seems to be the new norm. Nevertheless, call/email their support if you've been waiting more than that.

> When is it coming to my country?
The only "plans" are on an Australian and Chinese beta. Neither of which has gained much traction.

The fact that /biz/ is so bearish is making me kinda want to be contrarian.

Everyone thought there was going to be a bloodbath after the xivpocalyspe but instead we got a rebound.

All the indexes are basically 10%. We got our correction that big money was so thirsty for.

I wouldn't be buying much tomorrow, unless I see a deal so wonderful I can't pass it up.

Why? Think of the downward pressures....

1. National news reporting second 1000 point loss in a month, retail investors suddenly looking up the value of their 401k.

2. Margin traders who took losses today will start getting phone calls tomorrow, forcing them to liquidate otherwise good companies, which will give THEM downward pressure.

3. If there is an early-morning rise, people will see it as a last chance to get out while they can, which will force things back down.

4. If it goes down by noon, people will rush to sell rather than risk holding through the weekend.

Penny stocks to look out for if you feel like gambling or pissing away money. Volatile as shit.

NSPR. Went through a reverse split.jumped between 4.00 and 5.00. Pumped to 5.00 in the premarked then dumped to 4.00 again. Pumped back to 5.00 during power hour. Manipulation desu with the low volume. Will more than likely dump again. Could risk it buying that dip and hope the same group pumps it again. No official date for earnings. Last it was scheduled at was 2/16. ER expected to be good.

INPX. Bled 80% over a few days since its reverse split. Saw it jump up and down 50 cents today. Went as low as 2.90. Gonna bleed until news comes and that eta is a few weeks. Keep an eye on this. Would wait a few weeks.

JAGX. In decline but could go up leading to er which May go as low as .11 until then. Reverse split won't happen until march at the least. ER expected next week

BPTH. Another penny stock going through reverse split. Gaining in the AH. Definite dump tomorrow. Wouldn't risk holding it over the weekend. Might be news on monday. Conference on the 12th

Dude u gotta realize that the (((FED))) has been rigging the market with QE since the crash of '08. Low interest rates have also made it so that companies use leverage to buy back shares in order to increase the $/share valuation. Most of the gains we've been seeing are all fake. Literally EVERYONE is making money on the stock market. XIV blew up a couple days ago and a lot of people think that this is the dead canary in the coal mine.

The thing is that nobody knows what the fuck outcome keynesian policy will lead us to. That's why everyones on a hairtrigger right now.

A lot of people, including me, want the shit to hit the fan so we can enter the housing and stock market. Unfortunately, (((they))) won't give up control that easily.

You can have a city that constantly has real estate transactions and then a city right next to it that never gets any action. The flips can flop because nobody is buying that area and you just sit on the vacant property with nobody even interested in the property no matter how low the price is.

When the market is really volatile can someone put half of their money into something that shorts the market and leave the rest in their stocks just to kinda weather the storm without much loss or gain? >> No.7477977

What you are asking about is known as a "hedge", and traders do it all the time to protect their investment.

For example, someone will but shares of a stock, and then buy a "put option" on the same stock, which protects them in case the stock falls.

The taxes don't really come into play, especially if you itemize. When you itemize you declare both your gains and your losses, so it's kind of a wash.

Options are generally better for "shorting' the market or a stock because there isn't the risk of unlimited loss like normal shorting, and because options cost a lot less than stock and they do essentially the same thing.

I believe that crypto acted as a bellwether for the crash and will continue to do so.
If crypto drops again, I think we can expect the markets to do the same in the following days.
Would this imply that bitcoin is close to its true value?
How reliable do you think crypto is as a bellwether at this point?

>> No.7478384

>>7478100

Because it gives you the advantages of staying in.

Let's use a real world example, General Electric (though I wouldn't actually buy them since the company is in trouble.

(these also don't include commissions, which matter in the real world but will make things harder to understand here)

Stock Price: 14.45

Put Option:
... expires Jan 17, 2020
... strike price $18 (there are several, I'm just picking this)
... Price: $4.43

100 shares of stock = 100 * 14.45 = 1445
1 put options (covers 100 shares) = 100 * 4.43 = 443

So your total cost would be

1445 + 443 = 1888

Meaning that your upside breakeven price would be 1888 / 100 = 18.88 per share.

So, what happens if the stock goes up?

If it goes up above 18.88 per share, your net position is at a profit,. If it goes way up, for example, to $30 per share, your profit would be....

(30 * 100) - 1888 = 3000 - 1888 = $1112

In this case, your capital gains would be:
+ 1200 (gain on stock) - 443 ( loss on put) = $777

What if it goes down, let's say to $12 per share.
Stock.... loss of (14.45-12)*100 = 245
Put option gain = (18-12)*100 = 600

So in either case, you're still ahead. Where you lose is if the stock loses value, but not enough for the put to gain enough to offset the cost of the put and the loss of the stock.

I'm going to disagree on multiple levels:

>trump is too egotistic to let it happen.
He has no control over it. The Fed has no control over it. Neither does congress or wall street.

The market will go where the market wants to go. Back in 2008 we had the best financial minds in the country trying to solve the problem, and they still nearly fucked it all up.

Just look at the collapse of Freddie & Fannie. They fought like hell to stop it, and they were still powerless.

> ever reason for the crash is BS

Totally disagree. The crash has been inevitable since at least late 2015. This crash is a direct result of the solutions to the 2008 crash.

The Back-to-back Directional Changed on the Daily level have played their role. They produced the first low and then the reactionary high. We closed weak below 25490 yesterday so we now see the result. The close today below 24000 warns that we are still headed lower.

The low is by no means in place just yet. We still see the risk of moving lower into the week of the 19th if not the first week of March. The dollar is still pressing higher and that is not the real issue. The Euro will be under some question going into the Italian elections the first week of March.

Silver is falling and gold is also failing to respond as so many expected - stocks crash gold up. As I have warned, gold is not yet ready for prime time.

Tomorrow, a mere week-end closing below 24695 will be a confirmation of lower prices ahead. However, the close today below 23920 technically warns that we may test the third Weekly Bearish Reversal down at 23250. Electing that tomorrow and there is a risk that this Panic Cycle Year will indeed break last year's low of 19,677.94 before this is over and we can do this all by March.

Keep in mind that 1987 + 31 Years = 2018. The closing today below the top of the Weekly Channel, 24,437.39, has significantly warned that we are going to see lower prices. If we penetrate the bottom of that channel, 22,439.76, then there is a very good change that we will break the 2017 low even by March.

I started gambling last year and a half, and after losing almost 20% of my profile chasing memes, I started a low maintenance, long term investing plan and haven't looked at my portfolio for the past year. Obviously the news about the correction caught my attention.

Right now I'm at a position where If I sell everything, I would make a 8% profit after taking the 10% hit, or alternately, I could just hold and let the storm pass, as I realize that the term 'long term investing' is 5-10 years long, eventually I'll make up my losses.

I guess what Im trying to say is, should I sell and get my 8% and wait how the market reacts?
Or should I just keep AFKing like I have done for the past year?

My gut says sell and keep the cash and buy in later, but my gut costed me 20% chasing memes when I first started this rodeo.

Tips?

x3 ETFs are gambling as far as Im concerned, but given how everyone seems to think that the stock market will go down tomorrow - and will most likely continue to do so over the weekend - I don't think its THAT BAD of an idea to cash out, buy UXVY for friday and sell EOTD.

OR, I can just cash out and wait for the storm to pass - I think that's the better, conservative move, but I dont want to miss potential gains by being a pussy.

Lastly, I could just say fuck it and keep my money there as It'll eventually rise back up.
