What to sell at a mall kiosk?

Lease is 1200$ a month

Mall is next to a high school, 10 minutes away from a major city. Next to a suburb.

baby turtles

make sure you get everyone to double dip and buy your filters, tanks, food and shit

>> No.744727

Are there good margins on turtles?

Are people really interested in them right now?

>> No.744728

turtles would not work at a kiosk, besides mexicans sell red eared sliders out of their pick up trucks, and sell you cheap ass tupperwares as "aquariums" paying mall rent to do the same would sink your profits,

Hermit crabs usually seem to have people surrounding the kiosk in Arizona Mills (decent size Promenade Mall)

this debate is now about what small crustacion would be most viavble at a mall kiosk.

>> No.744730

>>744727
everytime I see a turtle kiosk at the mall, they are always crawling with kids who big their parents to buy that shit. the ones i see who go out of business go out of business because the entire mall went down, not because they just went down.

if they look poor, just push the turtle and tell them to keep it in a water bowl. if they look like they have money, push everything on them including the tank, filter, food, land etc etc.

baby turtles are cheap as fuck. look into red ear slider turtles, they are the cheapest. people who buy turtles at the mall don't care about fancy ones like western painted turtles. maybe have a few of these and sell them at a huge markup compared to your red ear sliders.

dude, you'll never know if you don't try. At the most, you'll only spend $2,000 up front but it's not like all that money would go down the drain.

business might be slow when school is on though. with summer coming up, you should get going asap. if turtles fail, try RC helicopters/cars during the holiday season is no one else is doing it.

>> No.744733

Ok well how many turtles do I need to sell per day to afford labor, cost of inventory and the lease?

>> No.744737

LOL

hes right, you wont know if its a complete waste of money until after its wasted.

but it's only all of your life savings, im sure you could just work at mcdonalds if it doesnt work. listen to this guy.

>> No.744738

>>744733
It depends on how much you get them for. You might want to keep some stock of fish tanks, lights, heaters and other shit too but at a mall kiosk, you won't be able to have much volume to get this stuff for cheap. I think you should be the only employee tbh. Since it's your business, you will give a shit. If you let a minimum wage peon have charge, he'll fuck everything up.

>> No.744739

>>744733
labor? this is a mall kiosk, you won't make enough money for labor. you are the labor.

>> No.744741

>>744737
I seriously doubt he'll lose all his money. At the most he'll just lose a month and break a little even or so.

Op, make sure you set up your shit around a highly populated area in the mall. First floor, around a Disney store/food court.

>> No.744743

>>744739
I mean if I buy turtles for 10$ each and sell at 20$ each I make 10$ per turtle

So if my labor and lease and inventory costs like 5k per month, I need to sell 500 turtles per month to break even basically

That's basically 20 turtles a day?

that sounds about right man. if all works out, you can start breeding them yourself or hell, add other reptiles to sell.

bearded dragons sell well and they are extremely easy to buy and breed.

>> No.744751

what if you buy a whole bunch of baby turtles, keep them at home, and breed them? You could cut out the middle man by having a whole bunch of sickly incestuous turtles

also think about opening up a small vape or phone case stand if there are none in your mall

>> No.744752

>>744749

also, I would ask /an/ for more advice. careful with your wording though -- many people on /an/ are petafags and will shitcan you for putting money in front of a baby turtles well being.

Phone cases was my original plan .

Here's a spreadsheet of some alibaba stuff and some rough ROI math

dawg, everyone is selling phone cases these days. it's insane.

think of something no one else is doing or very few people. just because no one is doing it at a mall, does not mean there is no profit in it.

why not try selling PC gaming shit at a mall? That stuff explodes during the holiday season. have guys try your shit out and even offer to build them a computer for $100-200.

>> No.744758

>>744757
Margins in phone cases and screen protectors are insane.

Everybody has a phone nowadays

Its an easy impulse purchase

Doesn't cost too much (20$)

This is my go to if I can't come up with something better.

>> No.744761

>>744758
well if you think it'll work, go for it. don't rely only on phone cases try. try offering services such as phone screen repair. you can learn how to replace the screens on all popular phones within a few hours. undercut every single person in your entire area and even open up a websit.

>> No.744763

>>744761
There's a RadioShack in the same mall offering repair services so I don't think it'd be worth competing on services.

My theory is that if I only sell the highest margin products I can stay lean and make decent money.

Skin care. Look into medical line by a doctor such as Obagi. Plant location at high end mall. Even at the company I work for on bad days we make about 3000 for the day, mark up VERY high. Good days about 10,000. On average for the month it's about 5000 a day.

You mean like oils and stuff?

>> No.744789

Not oils. Serums, creams, soluble collagen. Rich white women 30-70 love that shit and will pay anything if it actually gives great results. It takes a lot of work to get if off the ground. But once it goes the spread for each product sold is nice. Regardless of what you choose to sell, look into Zig Ziglar and the way he sells and a little bit of Jordan Belfort. Piratebay 'straighline persuasion'.

Not OP, but I use a machine to roll my own cigarettes. What if I opened up a kiosk selling the machines and supplies to roll cigarettes? Is it legal to give a free cigarette to a customer so they can judge the product? The cost savings compared to buying regular cigarettes is huge for only a small portion of your time. We're talking 17 bucks for 2 cartons and 10 minutes a day. The key is allowing the customer a free sample so that they know how good the product is before they invest in the machine and supplies. I'm in NC if it matters, what kind of extra regulations would I run when dealing with a tobacco product?

ecig starter kits and juice fucking hands down, you're margins are like 800% on the juice

>> No.745631

Know your demographic and exploit it.

If you know teenagers are going to pass by your kiosk, do some 'meme' research and know what they are interested in and sell it to them.

It's not that hard, OP, but the risk is always there.

>> No.745708

WELL OP HAVE I GOT A DEAL FOR YOU.

OP, LISTEN TO THIS BECAUSE REASONING LIKE THIS ONLY COMES ALONG ONCE IN A GENERATION.

YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THE MARKET GAP IN YOUR AREA. THINK ABOUT IT.

SCHOOL KIDS NEED PENCILS. THERE ARE NO KIOSKS THAT SELL PENCILS.

SELL PENCILS TO THE SCHOOL KIDS OP. YOU WILL SUPPLY THE DEMAND FOR PENCILS.

YOU WILL BE ROLLING IN MONEY.

>> No.745712

OP here

Good stuff so far.

I like the idea for "meme" products.

I was thinking t shirts mugs and shit like that with memes on them.

There might be a general purpose silk screening shop in the mall already, or it might have closed ( I'll have to check)

>> No.745719

I'm thinking like a spencers gifts kind of thing / edgey product store

What would be the bread&butter product though?

>> No.745731

Phone crap is meh - you have to think laterally, come up with an angle no-one else has - like, search ali for colorful clip-on cases for turtles, shop has a giant photoshop mock-up of Paris Hilton, Beyonce and that other bitch with the big arse Kanyes married too, whos name thankfully escapes me, all engaged in a lesbian 3-way while wearing different tastefully-accesorised turtles on their heads.

Either that, or the vape shop sounds good to me, dunno about legality (selling to minors etc.) - if there is no laws covering this in your area? - honestly, your Golden. Thank me later.

If there is a local college that is famous... sell all that branded crap they offer. I dont know if the margins are good enough.. but there are literally shopping mall stores and kios in the same mall hawking this shit for USC and Clemson.. and a little bit of Georgia/ Tenn. Could be good during the football season.

I think the silk screen shop might sell college stuff. Now that k think about it there's a whole "team shop" store selling seahawks gear in the same mall too. I think they have some university gear too.

Well obviously I would have to card people. I know in NC it's illegal to give alcohol away for free, but you can sample it for free. I'm wondering if there are similar laws for tobacco. I did find out yesterday from my friend that the guy he buys his supplies from says there's no money in the stuff.
