You can sometimes spot whale activity just by looking at charts.

For example:

1. Look for situations where there is a noticeable increase in historical volume yet the price doesn't seem to be proportionally altered.

This can indicate someone with a lot of cash is manipulating the price to keep it low whilst they accumulate so they can later use it for a PnD.

2. Look for spoofing and large walls which never quite hit the price points to be transactions that are used to invite smaller players to eat into what's being sold.

I've never thought to actually try to identify and track what's coming out of large wallets because:
1. I can't imagine whales would be that obvious.
2. Why try to ascertain that from the "supply lines" when you can just see it building up on on the "battlefront"?

Well in theory if you have the top 100 coin block chains constantly up to date and searchable, couldn't you map out where the money goes?

Even a few whales being tracked may be a good indicator on when to buy or sell
