As a hapa, the only racism i've experienced is white kids in grade school making slanted eyes and saying "ching chong" to me and calling me "chinese boy", and Koreans (in church and other places) causing me feel totally excluded and making it clear I wasn't one of them. That was far more painful to me than the teasing of the white kids.

As an adult, i've never experienced any racism that I can think of, so I can't really even relate to that.

The alienation is real. If you have a son, none of his achievements will be valued according to his own efforts amongst his peer group, especially in a public education system. Every test he does well on will be defaulted to his race, same with agility or athletic ability. I’ve seen this happen a lot and it’s happened to me personally. This will either motivate him to succeed to spite everyone or he’ll wallow in a sort of vague melancholy of half-assery. You’re gonna have to be a super alpha Dad and instill every Chad trait you can into that kid, and there’s still going to be a level of disconnect between you, maybe forever. My parents were pretty awesome growing up. I wasn't privileged or anything. My dad was a carpenter and my mom was a nurse. Neither of them made six figures individually. They didn't give me up in terms of material possessions growing up but always taught me to work for things instead. However they were always really supportive of me in pretty much everything I did. They gave me a lot of freedom too. Ever since I was 10 years old they pretty much let me walk home from school on my own because they knew I wanted to hang out with my friends instead of coming straight home. They never forced anything on me or tried to raise me with Slavic or Chinese culture and always gave me the choice to pick everything for myself. Religion included since my dad is Buddhist and my mom is Orthodox Christian, I ended up agnostic.

Yeah my dad is 5'11" and was a former competitive Olympic Weightlifter (a hobby I ended up picking up myself for fun. My Clean & Jerk is 285lbs and my snatch is 215lbs). He also played volleyball and soccer too but not on a competitive level. We still watch basketball and soccer together sometimes over a few beers whenever I get time.
