I'm no pickup artist but generally I've found its a combination of a lot things.

1. You have to spend time going out. Bars, music festivals, parties, carnivals (if you are somewhat young). Places where it is socially acceptable to talk to strangers. Don't be an autist and try and hit up women in places like movie theaters, gyms, fireworks shows, or in the middle of class.

2. You have to have the balls to actually talk to them. You don't have to be a player but you need to actually try and be somewhat funny. Alcohol will help your chances 10x. After even just 3 beers you can just lean in and kiss a girl if she is close to your league

3. Show you are rich AND INTERESTING. Buying a Mercedes isn't gonna do shit for you. You have to stand out. Classic car, motorcycle, even a fucking old VW bug. Watches are good too because most people don't wear them anymore but you're gonna want something unique. One on the left is hideous but that's probably good enough.

4. Talk about your job not your wealth. Seriously, even if she asks. Just vaguely say you invest or day trade. Say you have increased your portfolio whatever X this year. This will work so much better than going through a bunch of numbers and percentages.

1. Rolex
2. Patek Philippe.

Rolex is the only brand women know besides maybe Cartier when it comes to watch manufactures.

If you're not interested in horology just stick to quartz shitters or your phone. Women who have a discerning eye for quality might see you have a really nice watch if you buy from the companies who actually make tasteful watches, which in turn is normally the expensive ones if you're talking mechanical. But generally no watches won't do you any good other than maybe getting gold digging whores.

A few acceptable brands for men interested in horology/having taste:
>Oris
>Tudor
>Rolex (preferably vintage)
>Omega (stick to Speedmaster Professionals)
>Zenith (preferably vintage or non-tacky shit)
>Jaeger LeCoultre
>Patek Philippe
>Vacheron Constantin

Woman here. Don't buy a $500 watch, it won't get you laid. A $5000 watch MIGHT get you laid, unless you are poor because you spent all your money on a watch. You can get women by being Rich, funny, and well groomed, in that order. You don't even have to be good looking as long as you have a good haircut and nice looking clothes. As for a watch, try Eleven James, you can pay a monthly fee to rent really expensive watches and change them out every few months so everyone thinks you have a closet full of rolex and patek.

If you want flash, buy flash for cheap.

If you want quality, spend lots of money on minimal flash but high accuracy/durability.

You can get $40 Shanghai Watch Factory movement watches, 80% or so which will last you at least a year. Strong suggestion: ensure all buttons are recessed, no external buttons which 'stick out' like a stop watch. Lots of the cheap SWF watches have stop watch like buttons which will totally wreck the internals when you collide the watch with something.

If you move anything with your hands other than a pen and mouse, get a cheapie wrist watch or put the money into a good pocket watch. You should never buy a tourbillon or carousel-containing movement for a wrist watch, they are corrections made for pocket watches. If you must have a tourbillon/carousel then get it as a pocket watch so at least it's big enough to observe and enjoy.

Watch out for (((tourbillons))), which aren't real but are merely 'open hearts' sold as such. Real tourbillon-containing watches must cost at least a few hundred Dollars. Again, you don't need a tourbillon for accuracy on your wrist, but you do need it for your pocket since pocket watches will remain in the same orientations for uneven periods of time.

>I'm looking for an elegant watch that will at least hold its current value. Suggestions?

Don't get me wrong, Pateks will hold their value, it's just that they've dropped the ball on quality as they've dramatically increased production numbers.

Pic related is a good example with the massive metal insert holding the tiny movement in place as they're too lazy to try and increase it's size after they made larger Calatrava references. I also dislike how they cheaped out on the bridgework with that little square bit at the bottom section of the movement that holds both the escapement and 4th running gear in place, instead of putting them on separate individual bridges like they used to. Yeah it saves them some money but it breaks the flow of the otherwise traditional Genevan bridgework, which is a to me unacceptable on a watch that costs as much as a car.

>Would you recommend checking out a different brand altogether, or sticking to the vintage pieces?

Jaeger LeCoultre has about equal finishing work to modern Patek Philippe but comes at a dramatically cheaper pricepoint. JLC tends to be soft on the secondary market though so you aren't likely to make a profit, but if you buy intelligently you can at least keep the money you put into it.

Vacheron Constantin is about equal to Patek in price but their finishing work is miles ahead of them. They have small army of watchmakers at their factory who specialize in using hand tools to finish their watch movements the old fashion way (Patek uses modern power tools which leave "chittering" marks on the anglage of their movements FYI) They're also the only brand that produces watches in significant numbers that still carry the Geneva Seal. Only criticism is their watches tend to have fairly vanilla movements in them for all of their entry level stuff. Finishing quality is greatand consistent throughout their lineup though.

A. Lange & Söhne has the best finishing out of any of the ones listed and they used to be Hitler's favorite brand. Be prepared to be raped on service costs though. These are 100% going to go up in value and I would buy these for an investment, not a Patek.

H. Moser & Cie is the final one I would recommend. I'm personally planning to buy either one of these or a Lange when I cash out hopefully. Their movements are superior to all of the above listed and they have finishing work arguably equal to if not a hair under Lange. Where they really shine is their dials which are truly beautiful. They're also owned the only independent, private watch company I've listed here. Their CEO is cheeky and loves poking fun at other brands and how they cut corners on everything. Also super low production numbers, so you will never run into someone with the same watch. High chance they will be worth a lot one day.

Buy used on Chrono24 or from Jomashop would be my starting point.

From there I would look at some of their Grande Taille Reversos from the 90's through the mid 00's, they can be had affordably (even in solid yellow gold) and I think they will be good buys long term. Also some of their steel dress pieces in the Master Control line are likely to go up in value as some like pic related had limited production runs. Historically JLC has been a soft brand but we're already seeing creeping prices on the secondary market like with their Reverso Tribute to 1931, as people are starting to realize that they're a really high quality brand.
