What are your thoughts on banking with UBS (preferably from experience)?

>> No.672904

From what I have read they are a bit like banking with Northern Trust. God tier if your accounts are 7+ figures. You get treated like a peasant tier if you have less than 250k.

Thats the problem with a lot of the specialty banks. They have amazing benefits and world class customer service...if you are worth their time to provide those services for.

Its kind of like staying in a 2k a night suite in a Trump hotel. You are treated like a god if you show up driving an S class and wearing a nice suit. You get all but ignored and treated like you dont belong if you valet your 5 year old Cadillac while wearing a pair of jeans

Yeah an advisor I spoke with briefly talked about fees I might incur, I'm just outside the 6 figure mark

At that level you are honestly better staying with something like a local bank (not credit union) Small local banks will treat you great with that kind of account level.

The big guys really dont care about you or go out of their way to be helpful until you are in the upper ranges of 6 figures. You dont really get god tier service with them until you have a few million with them (HSBC springs to mind. Have 20-30 million with them and they are totally willing to commit securities fraud for you)

how are they "helpful"?

from what I've read about bulge bracket wealth managers, they tend to just give you offers to invest in their "zomg amazing" PE/HF funds that scrape big fees back to them

Yeah, that's what I've been going back and forth with - I've just mainly wanted to steer clear of US banks, get something global and quiet to park my money in, couldn't care about investing, etc.

My bank is 5 people big and we don't fuck with anyone who has a net worth lower than 7 figures

I don't see the problem with banks making profit in order to better serve their clients by make their institution better, credit unions give me more of a worry than banks

why? They're FDIC insured.
