Ernest: is Oyster basically a dapp platform that uses tangle?

Bruno Block: Yes, but the dapp part doesn’t run on the tangle. The tangle hosts the blockchain treasure hunt which props up the mesh topology that hosts the JS dapps. The mesh is particularly good for transmitting data, hosting websites etc. My long term plan is for website hosting + monetization to be built into the same package.

Automyr: So one of the main objectives is to allow websites to pay the PRL (or part of) they recieve thanks to visitors running Oyster directly for hosting their own website? That would indeed simplify a lot of things and allow a truly decentralized internet - as both the website hosting and the revenue generation would be built into the same decentralized system

Bruno Block: Yes, it could be automated in a feedback loop. Increased traffic (hence revenue) scales with increased hosting resources. There can be DB engine dapps that manage the information to and from the Oyster storage on the tangle. Even the wrapper itself can become a dapp. Oyster starts off needing centralized things like exchanges for PRL and typical internet websites, but eventually it will become its own self sufficient entity.

Ernest: What's the roadmap like?

Automyr: Testnet A this month, where you'll be able to upload files to the Tangle and set up hooknodes to get paid in PRL. Testnet B launches in Q1 (End of February-start of March) where you'll be able to put Oyster on your website and get paid in PRLs depending on how much PoW your visitors do. Mainnet launch is planned for April. After that we plan to build different wrappers around the core protocol and, in the long term, build a dapp layer on top of Oyster
