I have a "competency based" interview with these guys tomorrow. It's for a rotational summer internship doing audit, tax, and advisory. What questions should I expect?

Since it's competency based I assume it's gonna be questions of the "what is your greatest strength/weakness" variety.

Basically, get together a bunch of anecdotes about things you've done that make you look good, and use the questions as an excuse to talk about them.

These kinds of interviews, they're not neccesarily looking for your greatest strength or weakness, they're looking for whether you're capable of introspecting and of rationalising about your past behaviour.
So when you're asked about a weakness, for example, find something you've done that didn't go perfectly, criticise yourself, and reflect on what you could have done better.

>Describe one especially challenging task or situation and how that has impacted the way you have conducted work in the firm
>Nature of auditing is demanding. In what ways do you find an adequate work/life balance?
>What does KPMG offer that differentiates itself from the other "Big 4" companies?

Lots more. I just won't bother to type them all out because I hate auditors. Never forget that interviews are a 2-way street. At the same time that you're trying to impress the interviewer, the interviewer also has to give you enough information and initiate your interest enough for you to vie for the position. After all, if you really are someone with skills, why wouldn't you go work for the other companies in the Big 4 instead of KPMG?

>interviewer has to initiate your interest
No he doesn't. The assumption is that if you're applying to these kinds of firms, you're expected to be sufficiently interest. If you don't appear to be genuinely interested, the interviewer will assume you don't care where you work or are only in it for the money, and consequently rate you unfavourably. There are a hundred other equally qualified people he's waiting to see.

Was easier than the questions you guys contributed.

Very generic questions, e-z if you did your research.

What were the questions you were asked? Where did you research? Glassdoor? There's not many other places.

>got an offer from KPMG advisory last October? Had 1st round then 3 interviews for second round and a super day

Get behavioral interviews down, they are super easy. Just think of 5 good situations where you accomplished something etc. and you can usually apply one to the question. Its ok to fib a little on the details for those answers as long as you don't say stupid shit like you know some programming language you dont etc.

My best advice is to be personable. Be confident and be able to talk about things comfortably/fluidly, ask questions to get them talking and really listen. One of my second rounds the interviewer did atleast 75% of the talking when I asked about his experiences and asked specific follow ups to show im listening and interested.

> Tell me about yourself
> A time when you had show your leadership skills
> What do you do when you are faced with a challenging project/task

and some personalised questions based on the resumé.

I'm not an Amerifag so Glassdoor isn't very useful for me. There is a different corporate culture on the other side of the ocean and different hiring structures.

Damn. I wish I got those easy as fuck behavioral questions when I was first starting out.

>first question after sitting down with a consultant interviewer
"we'll begin with a mini case study that's expected to last anywhere between 30m-1hr"

>h-hi to you too

I found this book pretty good for consulting interview prep.

Thanks for the assist. But I already did my time at a consulting firm long ago. I am now a broker attache with a 3PL firm.

If you are looking to go into consulting at any point (which I suggest you do because auditing is one of the worst jobs possible and also not very prestigious), I recommend you check out Case in Point v8. I have the PDF if you are interested.

sure, link me.

Yeah as I mentioned this is a rotational summer internship rotating between audit, tax, and advisory. If I end up in KPMG I'd like to stick around in Transactions or some place like that.
