Why are there so many coins? Isn't the whole point of bitcoin to have one universal mode of exchange? Even if crypto does become the currency of the future won't 99% of these coins be left in the dust?

There are so many coins because dumb money is flowing in that doesnt understand tech, you could call an excel spreadsheet on a server Mooncoin and it would go to 10 billion

Yeah, the current state of the crypto is chaotic.
I believe in 5 years we’ll be left with only a dozen of coins, each with its proved and tested usage, that would increment all the best parts of the previous ones.
