not really I know I'm terrible since I don't know anything. It's just the first taste I got of stocks and trading and whatnot and it went terribly wrong. anyway it's simulated because it's the weekend so I have no idea why it's sliding this hard.

learn what to do, invest in blue chips when they are cheap, hold on and watch them grow

make sure you buy at least 8 different stocks, in different parts of the market, thats diversification

when i started out i made about 35% annual return, thats just holding good companies, now i do active trading because i know what im doing, i can make between 5-15% a week, especially using options, this is advanced, so you should learn the basics first

>> No.617652

never invest all your money in one stock unless you have next to next, never buy when a stock is at a high, at least if youre a beginner, later on you'll understand momentum, and develope the discipline needed to exist when it reaches a peak, but right now youre unfortunately clueless

So many things wrong with this post.

First, you bought a very long naked call of just the general US 30 year bond futures. That is an option and a dumb one at that.

No part of this is a stock, no part of this investing. You were playing with speculation on the value of a US 30 year bond while the fed was making giant changes from a great economic year in the US.

But that is the point of having papertrading accounts, to make mistakes.

So, how do you fix a giant mistake like that? First most demo accounts make an account have 20% of value locked from buying when buying naked options to secure risk. This means probably that you can't buy much of anything else since all the risk is tied in that futures call.
You first step is to mitigate that risk. And that means you have to sell a call that is one strike out of the money. This will create an incredibly large vertical spread based on ticks, but it will reduce your risk since now on expiration day (mar 15) you will sell and buy your calls.

The next thing you should do is learn what a Vertical Spread is and learn your option trading with that. Only trade one month ahead at first and never start trying to do speculative futures on things as volatile as the bond market and currencies.

You now have the option buying power to buy other positions and learn how to trade those. I recommend looking at high volatility index stocks and trading call spreads on them. Then you can start making other basic moves like butterflies and strangles.

If you are honestly still interested in trading by March, then you should look into rolling your call into something reasonable on a 21 day basis. Look up rolling positions and see how probably by august you can turn that bad move into very little loss through delta decay and credits for selling calls.

tl;dr you did not buy a stock and made a risky play. Turning your move into a spread will reduce loss.

cheers. I have no idea what all that means but I will take the time to figure it out.

Wow, a valuable post here for once.

>>618084
You should buy basic index funds (google "three fund portfolio") before exploring mad territories like these.

First, index funds. Then, individual stocks and bonds. Then, warrants, options and other advanced stuff.
