Everyone warns me "enjoy life while you can", because later you get stuck with a family and a job etc.
Wouldn't I avoid exactly what they warn me for if I act like a workaholic now & then retire at 30 or so?

I'm 23 now and I know it'll be difficult to save up a sum to live off interests from quickly, but it just sounds more logical to me than enjoying a few more years of youth and then spending 30-40 years with a mediocre income.

I just feel like I've wasted the years "enjoying student life" because I have nothing to show for it but some memories and a graduation paper, so... (btw, no debt)

Heck, I hope I don't sound confused.

Workaholic mode with a wage slave career + a side business from home without a social life and luxuries -> retire in 10 years
or
Have a life and save 10% of income and keep a balance for the next 40 years?

What kind of life will you be living if you retire at 30 after working a wage slave career and side business? You'd have to move to Thailand and live in a straw hut.

This strategy only works if you actually get rich by 30. It's doable, just look at Zuckerberg etc. You just need one good idea and solid work ethic for 10 years and you're set. Unfortunately that's way easier said than done.

no, you retard
if you start slaving away at 23, you'll never stop. i know this type of people too well.

also you might die 9 years from now. and where does that get you?

i almost died when i was 20 (it really was a close shave), so that might have changed my attitude towards life and work. i mean it definitely did change it. so i'm strongly against long term plans.

Do what you enjoy most, not what brings you the most money. That's why i'm a farmer with a degree in mechanical engineering.

Unless money means more to you than quality of life. I can tell you, it's just not worth it.

Listen to this guy, he is 100% correct.

I've spent the last 4 years working my ass off for the same goal you wanted. I've sacrificed my social life and now that I actually have the money to go out and do awesome things, I have nobody to do them with. I lost all interest in things that were once fun and all I do is work and think of work related things and how to make more money.

Get a good job and balance work and play, it's important. It's a very common phrase, but a friend of a friend reminded me and it hit me hard: "You can't take it with you".

What's the point in making a ton of money if you can't even enjoy it? I had more fun when I had $25 in my pocket for the week and was surrounded by friends.

No because money changes you.
you wont be able to enjoy fully because you'll know how hard you worked for it and will be reluctant to spend it except for the highest investment returns.
here comes the child. You get to create a human being that will be with you until you die (if you're not an ashole to it), how badass is that?

That's a fucking retarded way of thinking; if everyone applied it we would still be living in mud huts.

No brain activity upstairs, I see.

Next time, try actually refuting a counter-argument with something else than an ad-hom; it'd make you look like less of a douche.

Also,

>until you die
Unless you live in a third world country, you'll be thrown into a retirement home and have occasional visits, maybe 5-10 times a year at most.

Was it worth the trouble? I doubt it.

I thought about that alot. The only answer I found was to find a job that I could enjoy, creating my own business. Find what suits you anon!
