I use coinbase to get Eth, then and have stuff on bittrex and binance. DESU binance is becoming my favorite exchange. Don't buy and transfer BTC from coinbase because the transfer fees will dick you hard, esp when you're starting out.

Also, make sure you know how to handle your own wallets and control private keys, all that shit (myetherwallet, etc.). I keep most of my stuff on exchanges because I'm a fucking idiot, but once you have >10k in the game seriously look into security and keeping control of your coins.

Diversification typically limits potential upside but tends to be more safe. Not everything will grow at the same speed or to the same extent so you should probably study and pick some favourites. However, with the way this market has been it can't be too awful to spread things out just to make sure you're capturing some of the growth we're seeing in crypto. I personally think you should probably narrow your porfolio down at least to about half the size. Depends on your goals.
