This was the cycle, the one where it became irrefutable that bitcoin is going up forever, and now every private wealth manager in the world is shilling it to their clients, and nation states and central banks are going to start accumulating. I bought $2k worth of Filecoin like 4 years ago at $20. I actually spent time studying what its use-case was and thought it was a good project. It took me a long time to realize that nobody in crypto actually gives a single fuck about the technology. It's literally all gambling. The BIS even did a study/survey on crypto holders in 2017. Of the respondents, 98% said they were only using it to get rich and would sell at some point, only 2% said they were holding for the technological use-case.

I sold my Filecoin at a loss this year because I'm tired of it.

I did buy Bitcoin last year at $16k, but I sold it at $24k.

I've had 14. I was reading about Bitcoin in 2009. I never bought until 2017. Thought I could make more by investing in altcoins, and for a time that was true, then they all dumped and my $6000 investment was worth $0.

I got back into crypto in 2020, a couple months before covid. I even bought during the dip in March of 2020 when Bitcoin briefly descended to $3,000. But did I hold Bitcoin? No, I immediately went all in on a shitcoin called Origin Protocol. The worst part was that I was up to 60k at one point and when I sold it was worth 30k. Then I lost 20k when I discovered crytpo futures trading with leverage in summer of 2021. I've since been all in on a utility coin that hasn't done much, I'm breaking even.

I'm up at $150 on Cheese right now, that's the extent of my success in crypto.

I have a modest amount, much less than a million. I'm currently unemployed right now, and thus I am afraid to invest heavily.

It eats at me. My friends and I occasionally discussed Bitcoin back when I was in college over a decade ago. We were all aware of it, but I never considered it as an investment. I followed the Mt. Gox story, and again after getting to $1k in 2013 and then dumping I just never thought it would truly take off. I saw it as something you use to buy drugs on the internet with, and since I could easily get drugs irl I never had any use for it. I really thought that if Bitcoin ever took over as a digital currency, that I would simply swap my money over to crypto for useability purposes.

The only reason I haven't given up is that I've gotten lucky enough in the past, where if I would have timed my trades my better (I.e. not gotten greedy) I could have actually made it by now despite missing the boat so many times

Recent example, i bought thousands of ZKML at 0.18 two weeks ago.
For a week it dumped to 0.11 (that's a 40% loss in a week).
Paper hands would have sold there.
Two weeks later it's at 0.67.

i still miss the plays

i traded NFTs and i was worth 140k for a minute. then i failed to sell the top, some chink steve aoki was apparently a top signal i never heard about everyone sells after he buys. completely ruined my gains... and i kept holding until i lose 70% value... now i basically have 0.6btc... at least i'm worth 60k now....
