I don't agree that gold is useless, but what the fuck is your picrel? is it volume? is it time? the fuck is even
>historic money
also, just because there is nominally a gold standard, doesn't mean, that it works de-facto. Because the vast majority of vouchers never were, are not, and will not be exchanged for real gold from a (royal) treasury, whatsoever. You do understand, that people rarely were transporting precious metals all over the world, multiple times, as a currency? People usually did to bring it into their local warehouse, become richer, and create more vouchers for it. The more you transport the same brick of gold the less value it has, because the more expensive it becomes. Transportation and security are not free, nigger. Obv. the volume of value itself simply doesn't even compare to the current economy.

They won't. Economy will sooner adapt polished anal beads as a universal exchange good, than crypto. In case you have missed the real world for the past 20 years: h00mans do NOT want to abandon the cash and exchange in cash completely. Also, contrary to your tinfoil hat hypothesis, the market, as in the majority of the participants in the market, decide what from the universal exchange good takes. Not some rich fag, not some juice, not aliens. Economy shapes the exchange good according to the current need, that is a list of attributes a currency has.

Paper money wasn't a big thing until about 350 years ago, even then it wasn't as big as just carrying your coins. For most of human history coinage was money, not fiat claim checks/notes. The tiny hatters learned to take advantage of people being lazy, and stole their wealth through fiat inflation while doing the 'hard' work of storing the 'heavy' 'cumbersome' coinage. Really cool idea, Buy them if your state has one, dont bother if yours doesnt, but also dont ONLY stack them. Only thing I feel different on is if you live close to a state that does. If you live in Colorado it wouldnt hurt to have some Utah or Wyoming Goldbacks. I plan on getting quite a bit over time but its not the only thing I stack. Hi. I need some advice from non-schizos.
I've got about 6.6 oz gold and 700 oz silver.
I need to convert some PM to fiat. I've never sold before. So I understand they won't sell at market value so, how much lower is acceptable?

Also, should I sell gold or silver? I just need $10k for an emergency. I plan to go sell tomorrow morning NYC time.

I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks.

newbie here

should i buy bullion over coins or vice versa, or does it not really matter? i'm guessing it's easier to sell a simple gold bar that you bought fresh with maybe a certificate from a reputable vendor? i'd like to buy coins for the novelty of it but i dont want to get rinsed...

pic is my entire "stack" for now ... lid for size comparison. it's got a little certificate card that came with it, with a signature of the "certified assayer" and the serial number. is that important or is it just whatever? crazy to think this tiny thing is already worth almost a hundred bucks.

For gold, I prefer coins. They will have a higher premium over bars/rounds, but I think they are more recognizable and easier to sell.
Silver is cheaper so it's easier to diversify. I have about 1/3 in bullion (Eagles, Maples and Brits), 1/3 in generic rounds and 1/3 in junk silver coins.

>> No.58960471

>>58960374
It depends a little on where you live and what laws apply, and of course what your personal preferences are.
Some countries tax bullion, art (figurines, e.g.), and coins and the metals types differently or not at all. This is one reason why bullion coins were invented - to bypass tax laws - there are many more countries and states that do not tax coins at all. Then there's the possibility of a coin appreciating further through numismatic value. These would be special coins like Kangaroos, Somali elephants, ... coins that change pattern not just year stamp. You pay a higher premium, but the value usually accelerates more quickly than flagship coinage like eagles, maples, Britannias. These in turn will appreciate more than generic rounds and bars with interesting designs, which appreciate better than simple factory-stamped rounds and bars.

I initially thought bars were better, too, but I've come to understand that coins are actually easier to sell, as the buyer can easily measure, weigh, do the ping-test (for silver) etc (whereas bars are usually locked away in a plastic package) and they are a bit easier for the buyer to sell on, as well, due to popularity. They can hold numismatic value, too, which can add a little to the resale value. So, I sold most of my bars and bought bullion coins. Maples, Eagles, Britannias etc from reputable dealers are your best bet.

Its extreme rarity and the challenges of working with the material rendered it undesirable in days of yore. Now it has great industrial use as well as in jewelry. Its industrial use is mainly in catalytic converters. With internal combustion engines and by association catalytic converters falling out of favor, demand has decreased. If hydrogen fuel cells ever become a 'thing' (and I believe it will eventually dominate) Pt will again become valuable in industry. This assumes alternatives to Pt will not be found, though that is a current quest.
It's nice to have a little though. It's a speculation metal and having a sample is interesting. It's even a tiny bit denser than gold.
