Here's my full Stack of About 1 year of collecting
I started last year with the 100g Gold bar and the 5500g in Silver and have worked myself up from there mostly focusing on gold now until i reach the 10 oz and then maybe i start to get more into silver
I have about 6.2 ounces of gold so it will still take some time
Because i spend so much money on it last year i didn't have much money to invest this year and wanted to save up until i get a full ounce to bypass the high premiums on fractionals which turned out to be a mistake since the gold price absolutely skyrocketed during march this year before i could by my ounce for under 2000
So my strategy going forward this year is to buy fractional coins more frequently every 2 or 3 months or so even though i will pay more in premiums this way its the most consistent way to get to gold

pros: 9999 silver, quite rare coins, excellent condition.

In weimar Germany, exchange students were using their gold-backed money to buy up entire blocks of real estate because the owners could not afford the update/renovations. The crippling levels of inflation were a function of worthless currency hitting everyone from all sides. Precious metals as a physical store of value were not just a life-raft. It was a yacht. The masses needed a functioning money and that demand conferring unprecedented levels of purchasing power to the holders. America and the rest of this economy of "paper millionaires" will find out that this unprecedented levels of "prosperity" was nothing but an illusion. Without physical capital, a useful skill, or tradable goods/commodities you will be the hardest hit.
Not all areas of America were hit during the great depression. If you city is backed with infrastructure, strong solid manufacturing base then you will do well as opposed to a city built up on real estate speculation or tourism etc.

what about when they can't suppress it any more?
a course of events (I know too little to tell if it's likely, but I consider it plausible):
>a small-time SLV futures trader goes bust, starts liquidating its fractional deposit to pay its creditors
>investors in its paper silver panic and demand the physical delivery promised
>the minute the deadline passes and no silver is delivered every other paper-holder starts a run on their contract's issuer
>issuers (or rather, their bots) start buying physical silver like nobody's business
>hardware tech companies' bots see silver skyrocketing in price and start buying too to secure production
>software tech company investor-bots go "wtf is this shit" and start selling because apparently Apple is now a jeweller
>FTSE hits the downward circuit breaker, LBMA hits the upward one, humans start sweating and wondering wtf is going on
>legacy media starts getting wind of this and women run to jewellers' shops to sell their silver jewellery for 10x what they bought it for
>trading opens the next day, nothing changed, circuit breaker is hit at 9:00:00:01 London time
>this is for real. there just isn't that much silver to pay off everyone who wants it
>governments sell their reserves. this is dwarfed by the paper:physical ratio still, but keeps the trading floors open
>mining companies start buying up landfills, recycling centres and the LBMA's carpet to soak in aqua regia and see what comes out
>prices eventually settle and we see post-Great-Depression laws (like the Onion Futures Act) banning "paper metals"
>in the meantime every anon is a millionaire

>what parts of electronics are youbworried of rusting off anyway
Contact surfaces. Corrosion changes capacitance, which makes designing high speed connections difficult. Also low voltage / low current contacts like keyboards and mice. Very sensitive to small disturbances. The switch either has to be sealed or plated.

There are lots of chemistry reasons in manufacture of board level component and semiconductor processes not available for spoonfeeding.

>>58861466
Because they need a microfine material with maximum conductivity for efficiency. Copper oxide is much worse than sulfated / oxidized silver, which is a durability problem.

Plenty of cities have manufacturing bases and export all kinds of machinery and tools etc. These are not always companies you will have heard about, but being able to produce and ship out products and bring that income to your home city will help keep people and businesses etc afloat.
There is no point to go in to specifics as the point still stands that economic crashes are not uniform across the whole country.

As far below 50% of melt ($0.41/g) as you can manage. This gives you room to invest in higher quality "scrap" sterling objects which may cost more than 50% but also carry easily realized extra premium value as antiques or jewelry.

First time was a full night with a friend in 2020, were we found 30 euros and a gold earring with a cheap Garret Ace 250.

So for the next summer I got a better, waterproof machine, the Equinox 600, and we were collectively able to find 3 gold rings, two silver Pandora with charms and a few other silver jewelry, along with at least a couple hundred euros. But I/we never had much time to hunt due to work and general tiredness, especially for the last two years, so it was about 5 to 10 hunts per year.

We sold the first earring but we are keeping the newer gold stuff cause we are smart we both eventually got into stacking PM.

I've spent 700 euro for the Equinox and then 100 for a pinpointer (the Nokta PulseDive). Frankly it's a nice hobby to have, I just wish I had more time to go hunt.

Very nice finds! I've eyeballed and screened plenty of gold jewelry but have only ever metal detected 1 gold ring (5.04g of modern 14k). Can I ask what general country or region you were hunting? The remainder is mostly copper, and generally the purity of .999 bullion is measurably higher, often closer to .9999, but as long as it conforms to or exceeds the .9990 industry standard purity no one really cares about the actual batch-specific fineness. When high purity silver is needed in industry/tech for various applications I'm pretty sure it's standard practice to refine it all again in-house even if the fine silver they sourced assayed higher than their requirements specify.

How long has he been stacking silver? Post pics of any interesting older bullion ingots or numismatics, some vintage silver bullion as recent as the 1980s is worth multiples over the spot value of the silver alone to people who collect rare old bars versus just stacking weight. We all probably agree that you should keep the PMs hidden away for a rainy day but if you have stuff worth 2x melt or more i think it would be sensible to list and sell it on eBay.

Hmm, unfortunately that kinda sounds like .925 sterling silver "Franklin Mint" stuff, they made countless gimmicky "Limited edition Collector" sets back in the late 1960s-1970 and most aren't really worth more than scrap price. A few are desirable now for some reason and can be flipped profitably for more than their base silver value but you'd need to look them up. What I meant by old bars/ingots was .999 bullion made by various refineries like Engelhard or Johnson Matthew or ingots straight from the assay offices of gold/silver mines like Homestake

Found another one lmao, must be my lucky week. It's a smaller 8 kt ring, while my other gold finds were 18 kt which is much more common here. Overall 0.91 grams of gold content, plus 3 small "0.045 w.si" diamonds too.

I live not too far from some nice italian beaches. I enjoy finding jewelry and modern cash, and it's so much easier to dig on sand. Don't have many forests nearby, it's mostly fields and private properties. But laws about natural areas and archeological sites are very strict, and people can be very hot-headed, so I prefer to just go the beach. I occasionally tried hunting on fields but never found anything particularly interesting, and they are very trashy. But yeah I'd love to take hunt on forests and trails, sooner or later I will. I know people that found roman coins or silver thalers by just planting stuff...

Picrelated is the new ring I found with some 500 lire. They are the most common junk silver you can stack here, and despite finding many lire on the beach (and a couple on dirt) I yet have to find a silver one.

It could be a good price to snatch up some Pd. I think once the credit collapse happen it would matter too much as all of these valuable materials will move higher. And even in a deep depression where prices decline the actual supply won't be available to buy $600 Pd if it were to move lower.
Pd and Pt are good investments and I do own a tiny bit. But the rock-solid foundation of the GSR and its importance linking the banks to real-world supply/demand is where I would prefer to put $1000. I think it is silver acting as that very lever against gold which has its price suppressed. So I think that makes it the better purchase whereas Pd already broke free of manipulation and made a major move. Silver's is yet to come and owning a kilo of silver vs 1ounce of Pd will look almost comical in hindsight when its all said and done.

>... rock-solid foundation of the GSR ...
Agreed, however I am a very cynical and skeptical person to the point that when I see a common theme, I reject it.
Gold and silver have been up remarkably since March and I suspect a pull back is immanent.
You can see a radical pullback / bubble in Pd. Pd peaked at $3,000 - it's down to $1,000!
Everyone and their mom seems to be suddenly into silver or gold. They're selling it at Costco.
All the doom and gloom peddlers have a PM affiliate.
Alex Jones is routinely having a sponsor on that will buy and hold your silver for the low, low price of 8%!
Recent CPI analysts peg inflation at 3%.
I can't help but see we're in an election year (the most important ever in our life!! :eye roll emoji:) and the US political tactics of fear and doom and gloom manifest in higher PM prices because the talking heads have a fiscal reward (one could even argue a fiscal responsibility) to dramatize the news and push their audience to use the affiliates.
Meanwhile, Pt & Pd aren't getting the same attention and the prices aren't affected, so my hypothesis is that come 2025 we'll see Au & Ag pullback and complete a bubble similar to Pd above.

My thesis is that they can only kick the can with the help of global cooperation. World trade agreements could be in place that span 3-10+ years. We really do have no clue what will happen or when.
I expect crippling deflation caused by banks to squeeze out every last drop from the tax-cattle before they let it rip. Similar to the Depression in 2029 and not revaluing gold until 1933. That will be a long, arduous desert to cross for most people ESPECIALLY if you lose your job.

Silver has done shit in the last few years
Bounced around and is the same price as the whole reddit squeeze era
Gold however is up. It's being supported not by retail as much as central bank buying. Retail is a marginal driver.
Palladium is being dropped in industry in favor of platinum because of the price, things like catalytic converters. These changes take years to rotate, and undo. Supply shocks factor into the price of p&p and have contributed greatly to the historical price. You would buy on that, and maybe platinum being more widely used like in hydrogen stuff. Ultimately, they're not monetary metals.

I agree times are scary and we're overdue for something, felt that way since 2018 and with covid it's just too transparent. The covid money printers and wild increases of cars, houses, and goods have me hoping for a depression (deflation) that reduces the cost of living.
Speculating on the 'what' to me is pointless. The media and economists will pick any boogie man. The lying media and economists are the distraction.
Remember the stock market selloff 2 weeks ago? Prices retreated 3% for one day and Yellen and Powell were screaming about how 'emergency measures' needed to be enacted.
What happened? Nothing. Stocks have recovered.

I see inflation, but there were also disruptions and exploitations.
The cost of a 2x4 ballooned to $12 during covid and is back down to under $4.
Remember when the price of eggs was $7/dz? Temporary.
Restaurants and the service industry cranked up their prices, but I suspect they were doing so to re-coop from lockdowns.
Don't misconstrue that to think I'm being political - those are my first hand observations.
Is the cost of living elevated? Yes. Is it inflation, stagflation, or supply and demand balancing out? I'd say a mix of all three.

To your point, housing and car prices are retarded, but I see them falling.
Was is inflation? Was it white flight due to illegals? Bored Karens during covid? Another 2008? $12 2x4?
Speaking of illegals - that's what I attributed the used car market to along with car manufactures like Ford feigning a 'chip shortage' to couple their inventory to the lack of demand thanks to the coof.
I'm viewing current events through the lens of election season and not take it at face value.
I own my cars and house out right, have healthy retirement accounts, a solid net worth, and a high income.
You bet I'm insulated - but I'm also cheap.

Sure, I'd say we've had inflation in the ballpark of 8% in the past few years, but I think we've weathered the inflation storm. Recession/Depression? We've been in that for awhile. I expect it to get worse, but equally, don't forget it's an election year.

If you're doing it on ebay, you might make a little extra on the shipping charges. So one ounce at a time would be better.
I'm guessing you're a Bong. I've heard tell that gold is a 'better' option - more liquid, less hassle, no CGT worries?, no VAT worries, .less mass to move...
My singular concern is whether we're in a bubble. I've seen gold go from 1700 to 1200. I've seen silver go from 37 to 12 (when no dealer had any in stock, ostensibly), and back up. In order for the serious players to make money, prices have to move back and forth, and they have to know when to buy/sell.
So the GSR can be a 'thing' for us pleb outsiders. When GSR is low, trade Ag for Au. When gold is low, buy it.
Question is, is it a new norm now, or will it go back to 2000, which not long ago was thought to be very high?

true, at least for now. i think the whole point is theres nothing wrong with both metals and its only a matter of when to buy one of the other. now that all depends on one's budget for sure. gold will always moon, a line going up for the most part. silver can be as bullish as gold but it lags behind it big time so usually its more volatile and undervalued until it has its shorter yet higher peak.

And people in comments will be like “I gotz 200oz of silver so that will last me 8 months or whatever.” How are these people so stupid that they are still valuing the silver in dollars of how it is currently in a collapse/paradigm shift as far as their bills go? It’s like they think they’ll be going thru the drive thru at Taco Bell with war nickels when SHTF and bitches are being raped in the streets 100 yards away. How do they not understand that they will probably be rich with 200 ounces and that it’ll be some sort of revaluation? And that you’ll probably be just fine with 30 ounces for a couple years. Don't sell your silver for gold, but rather just shift to buying gold instead.

People here are idiots, they've convinced that the world is going to collapse and immediately people will be trading silver for food. In reality, if the world does collapse, gold/silver won't be used for trading for a good few decades. People will be hoarding food, medicine and weapons not shiny rocks. For the first few decades as communities form, it'll be "what skills can you offer our community?" not "how many shiny rocks do you have?". Silver/Gold can help facilitate trade, but you need established communities first which will take years and potential decades.

Gold is useful when you have localised collapses such as in Syria. Shove a few coins up your arse, hop the border and you can then sell said coins for a local currency wherever you decide to settle. Doesn't work if the collapse is worldwide. Silver is not good against inflation, it is far too volatile and the price too inconsistent. That being said, silver has more industrial usage so you can expect the value to slowly creep up over the years. Not at the rate that gold does, but it'll still go up.

>>58869680
GSR is currently climbing numb nuts. Lowest it's been in the past 10 years was during the plandemic. In the past year it hasn't moved much at all and is currently climbing due to gold rising in price whilst silver isn't moving.

>>58870388
Because come November there's going to be fuckery afoot and gold will rocket up in price. Regardless of who wins. People have become so polarised that whichever side wins will cause the other to chimp out. Chimping out means instability which leads to market uncertainty, and everyone flocks to gold when that happens.
