Eventually that will absolutely happen. The shorts can only squat with their systemic-naked-short positions. They can never stop the bleeding and they can't stop the company from moving forward. As the company grows its bottom line the price point will not even be remotely feasible. If the price gets too low the literal valuation would be for every $1 invested in GME you acquire $1.01+ of cash.
The arbitrage trade would kick in and it would be free money. So they can't lower it and the floor continues to rise. They can't increase the price because it strains their margin. The time for the SEC to step in and liquidate these shorts is well past due. The notion that the DOJ and SEC are doing investigations is just a form of a can-kick.
These people are bust and no one appears to have the capital to undo the crime we are all witnessing in real time. Generational wealth and billionaires are literally about to go bust overnight and they are downright seething. But the bipartisan nature of retail being involved and watching every second of a very major national brand is basically tying their hands from sweeping this under the rug somehow. The only fix is liquidation of the shorts and for the DTCC and the Fed to satisfy the longs to clear the books.
They allowed the crime to get this far out of control so they can eat the losses. If the problem is counterparty risk due to defaults on derivatvies then so be-it. If the contagion needs to spread and bankrupt some more entities then so be it. Whatever needs to be done to clear the books needs to happen and GME holders will have plenty of money to step back in and recapitalize and revitalize the economy. The former billionaires can learn to code and pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Trading is a tough game and everyone involved was a professional who knew the risk profile of naked shorting when they engaged in that strategy.
