>Be me. Multimillionaire. Purchase everything outright. Never run a credit card balance. Never took a loan for anything except college and my first house. Never delinquent on payments for either. Credit score never moves over 740.
Why? I know people buried in debt that have higher scores than me. Just shows you that it is the goy score. If you aren't a good goy who lives on credit for their benefit you will never get the highest score.

the only reason you should have a high credit score is if you're about to rugpull the banks. have dozens of credit cards ready to max out and apply for several personal loans at the same time. hide the money and file for bankruptcy and repeat in 8 years

Credit score is a meaningless meme, I literally had max score for a year and couldn't get an unsecured personal loan. Owning a car and property is worth credit score 1000x over.

I don't usually post in /biz/ but is this the thread to talk about churning bank accounts and credit cards?

I'd much rather have an 800 credit rating and get tons of free money than 850 and cuck myself to see funny number go up.

1)You probably need more credit cards to go higher.
2)It's fine to run a balance as long as you pay it off each month before it starts accruing interest. If you set up autopay and just pay your statement in full on the payment date each month you're effectively getting 0% APR, plus a lot of cards have intro offers with ACTUAL 0% APR for the first year or so, which is great when combo'd with a 5% HYSA.

having a high credit score means you don't know how to use debt to your advantage

my score went from the 800s to the low 600s because i bought crypto with a credit card and once the promotional period was up i transferred the balances to another card that gave me another 0% interest for 12-18 months

i own 2 homes financed at 2.625% and 3.25%, one of which is rented out

I've churned through dozens of credit cards over the years to earn signup bonuses and take advantage of promo 0% APR too. My total credit limit is over $300k.

Some credit cards give you money or points (that can be cashed out) if you charge a certain amount to the card within 3-4 months. For example, the Wells Fargo Active Cash card will give you $200 if you charge $500 to the card within 3 months. Do this for 20-30 credit cards and you got yourself a decent stack to invest with or blow on vacation or whatever.

Sounds like another cognitive burden to manage those (various) programs. Looks like I'm not the target audience, considering that I don't have much personal consumption (and business expenses are wired).
Thanks for the explanations.

Some are referral based.
Some you just get in the mail, are offered automatically, or you can find on websites like doctorofcredit.
For example, a relatively easy beginner card to get is the DiscoverIt Cashback card.
The standard benefits are 1% cashback on all purchases, and 5% on your first $1500 of a rotating seasonal category (currently gas, summer will be groceries). Using credit instead of debit also makes disputing transactions easier for the consumer. Downside is its a Discover card, and they usually give people a low credit limit.
The current standard offer is double cashback and 0% APR for the first 12 months, but if you use a referral code, you can get an extra $100 statement credit.
>>58628169 this card is also a good general use card. 2% cashback on everything, good sub bonus, its a Visa card, and its wells Fargo and not some random 3rd party bank like comenity or synchrony bank.

There's also some cards that offer very specific bonuses like Amex platinum gives you access to airport lounges, hotel/flight credits, and concierge services, but they usually come with annual fees and I would not recommend them for 99% of people.

Personally I only have 1 card from each of the 4 major providers, but I'm planning on churning rewards now that I have a house and don't need to apply for a mortgage anymore.
