I used to be ashamed to be friendless after a period when I had health problems during my early 20s, I thought I should have been a terrible friend for people to not even contact me while I went through some shit, then I began to be angry against them.

I have beaten myself a lot on this until I realized these friendships were not based on bad foundations, they were just superficial and the result of me trying to "fit in" too hard despite having a natural inclinaison to be alone and happy with it.

The other thing is that "friendship" is a meme pushed hard everywhere these days (notably in fiction), since failed families are legion and rising at rapid rate the trend is to make you believe you can cope the lack of family cell with a support group made of friends.
In consequence people feel pressured to have this "circle of friends" who are always together and live great or little adventures just like they see on TV (see the number of sitcoms or anime built on this trope), this leads to a lot of people hanging with each others as a social statement but without creating real bonds.

I'm reading Letters from a Stoic right now, it's amazing how many self-truths date back thousands of years. Every letter is sent to one of his close friends, and the idea is they just exchange wisdom and try to grow as people. I've been reading it really slowly since I'm trying to take notes and absorb it all. Maybe it's masturbatory, but at least a little can be applied to real life. One thing he hits on is making friends so you can support THEM when they're in bad times, so hopefully they can support you when you're in bad times. Which is directly contrasted with the Epicurean view of making friends for the sake of them helping you when you're in dire straits without proving that they're worth keeping around, or as Seneca puts it, "fair-weather friends."

Another blurb he mentions is how being around people contaminates you, but it's also vital to being human. Like every time he leaves his house and interacts with people/crowds, he's a worse person than when he left.

I think this thread illustrates why it's important to earn wealth. Earning it teaches you to keep it and grow it. To use it.

Just like getting fit requires learning about nutrition, exercise, physically doing so many reps the form and technique are seared into your body. The end result, the physique, is like your portfolio.

It represents your accumulated knowledge, effort, and perseverance.

Also my family is very supportive of me. My dad initially was skeptical. As he saw me making gains he took an interest. He put a bit of money in, trusting me to manage it and take any profits, as my gains grew he trusted me even more with his credit card to pay for some info I needed.

This money doesn't come easy to him. But we trust each other, support each other, and if and when I get big in crypto, I will absolutely share the wealth with them. Pay off mortgage, buy property and pay for vacations, make sure my parents don't have to work a day again.

I feel bad for those of you who don't have that relationship with your family. You need that pillar of support in your life.
