I think you underestimate how quickly things can get crazy. I'm actually mostly concerned about the pole shift. But everything seems to indicate that it is somewhat gradual and then happens extremely quickly. Once it happens things will go crazy and most will die. Earthquakes, volcanos... giant tsunamis.
