E-bay is so tough to find a decent seller from. All of them word their titles ambiguously so when you get half of what you though you got it technically isn't lying. The title says "half roll" Which does imply silver half dollars as shown. EXCEPT, they definitely mean 10$FV; as in half of a full roll. Careful when looking through ebay

I'd suggest to follow >>58465990 advice. Build some security first, then add a small amount of spice in the form of platinum. It's more volatile and its price is almost entirely driven by its industrial uses, having nothing to do with our idea of coinage. Tbh I don't think it can fall much lower than how currently is, so it's a bet but not a particularly risky one.

Palladium however is 100% industrial and is harder to sell than platinum, at least in most countries I suppose. This is why I'll probably only ever get a single ounce of palladium for the sake of having it, but I'd love to get it as a coin and those are very rare here.

Tl;dr - it's a speculation.
The price for platinum seems to bounce between US$ 1050 and 850, and right now it's very high in that range. Sure, it could be near a new median.
Its current main price driver is its use in catalytic converters. For a while it seemed internal combustion engines (ICEs) were on the way out, to be replaced by electric vehicles (EVs). Now we see EV sales dropping off, and that might explain its current price surge. Another factor is hydrogen fuel cells (HFCs) - Personally, I think these are the way of the future. Pt is currently used as a catalyst in those, but there was at least one claim of being able to use a silver-base catalyst instead.
It stil has many other uses, but they're fairly consistent and therfore will be inlikely to affect changes in price.

Depends on where you live, whether you're in a gold producing district. There are areas in AZ that you can find nuggets just sitting on top of the topsoil with a metal detector. Places in Idaho, Oregon, and California where you can find free mill gold in running water. I like panning because it's kind of like solving a puzzle, chasing the gold dust or flakes (if you're lucky) to the source.

$230 silver is coming soon. It will crash harder than bitcoin does back to $60 within days because of its industrial value and (((they))) can't have that. It will then claw its way to $95 and crab there because of the three digit psychological effect. By 2026, it's $110-120 and everyone here is shitting on it for a lack of price action because they bought in at $112.

There you go biz, that is what will happen and you will hate me for it. Nothing will actually happen until 2031 when it goes to $2400, but a McDonalds meal is 2.35dd by then which is the cbdc equivalent of $220 now. The US cbdc ("seebee" or "seeb" depending on your accent) is deflationary so you have to spend it or lose it. Fucking mountains of skives everywhere. Same. It was $2000 an ounce when gold was under $1000 back in 2009. Fundamentally it would seem to make sense given the tiny market.
I think platinum is a screaming buy at these prices, although silver is still probably the best bang for your buck.

do you actually make money buying precious metals? You assume the current fiat system can go on forever. It can't. It won't. They NEVER do. The fiat dollar WILL fail, the only question is when. When it does, all paper assets (except perhaps stock in solid companies that actually produce something worthwhile) will go to zero. Only hard assets will survive. The key thing watch is the bond market. If it implodes all of the leverage gets forcefully ripped from the economy and the banking system where we store all of our "credit" gets revealed to be a big ponzi scheme.
Banks actually save themselves by revaluing their deposits against metals so in desperate times they just revalue the gold on their balance sheet and everyone just gets impoverished. This is 100% what is going to happen again. And if you position yourself appropriately the great depression can be quite comfy.
The people all-in on stocks, real estate, bonds etc are going to get slaughtered once the purchasing power of credit starts to errode. The people with backhoes and small businesses and skills will be able to adjust. And that includes having value outside of the banking system (capital).
If you don't understand this then you may want to read some books until you do. The defining event for generations is not that far off.

I'm saying at some point some entity sitting on those bonds is going to want the value from them and will want to spend them on real-world capital and the government won't have a chance in hell of making good on it. And I think there will be a tipping point where the attempt to make these bad IOUs good will lead to a strain on the real world supply of commodities and the thing will unravel very quickly. What is theoretically "owed" by the bond market is multiples of the global GDP. It makes no sense that the entire world is literally not enough to make these bonds whole but we somehow need to come up with multiples of the global GDP to engage in an act of crippling deflation. Attempting to offset it with crippling inflation.
It's where this is all headed and it's pretty obviously on its face problematic. The thing that keeps people invested in it is that you can put money into it and keep earning basis points. If bonds stop being profitable and people want to flee to something else the musical chairs starts.

Depends on you, what you want and how much wealth you have to protect. If you are a young person just trying to save something out of your wages and protect it from the crooks in power, then your best bet is probably buying bullion as cheap as you can get it (from a reliable source).

If, on the other hand, you have some accumulated wealth you are trying to protect, then just stacking mundane bullion gets a little boring. There is a whole world of art and history stamped into gold and silver. Buying what you like makes the process of protecting your wealth more fun. Life should be fun even if society is collapsing around you.

I can't predict short-term market movements. And I doubt you have that ability. You are guessing. Of course you might be right. And then again you might be wrong. I don't need to guess because I'm playing the long game and a few dollars up or down over a few months doesn't matter to me. In the long term that will not even buy chicken feed.

The day WILL come when the dollar collapses. This is not a guess, it is a certainty. When it does, it very well may happen quickly and without much more warning than we already have. Then it will be too late to transfer burning paper dollars into hard assets.

On the other hand, as I said, I'm risk averse. And I have a tendency towards apocalyptic thinking. I'll pay a little more for peace of mind. I'm also lazy. Trying to follow short-term market movements is more work than I want to do. I would rather buy when I am ready to buy and then forget about it. That's just me. >ie. the time when silver was at the absolute bottom
Wow, that's a solid point. I should be looking towards 1933 instead. I just figured 1964 was the most modern time period when silver was our currency, but it was devalued in 1933.
Going off the prices found here
>https://www.mclib.info/Research/Local-History-Genealogy/Historic-Prices/Historic-Prices-1930s/Historic-Prices-1933
>lb of cheese was a quarter
About $6/lb today (albeit shitty plastic)
>lb of coffee was a quarter
About $8-$15/lb today
>dozen eggs for a quarter
$3-$6 around here for farm fresh
>llb of salmon for a quarter
$17/lb
>can of olives for a quarter
$3-$4 a can
Some connections aren't comparable (I'm sure the cheese was far better and mass production has made olives, etc far easier to produce), but my logic still stands.
0.18toz of silver could buy a pound of goods. That's what I peg silver to. Therefore 1oz of silver should be able to buy 5.5lbs of the above goods.
If silver moons to $500/oz, then in that model coffee would be $100/lb

It's not a perfect science by any stretch, but you can see my general view on precious metals being a hedge for inflation.
The goods and times were/are different, but the drama of 'could silver reach $1,000 next week?!' defies this type of historical understanding of what precious metals were.
/PMG/ and stackers take on an odd feel when PM gets a bump and they lose the logic of the commodity.

No regrets, I needed that thing for school and I used it to get my first real job so the ROI was great.
I've been buying since it fell back under $30, which is ironically shortly after I graduated and started earning income again to buy.

China, second biggest single holder of American debt is unloading it at an accelerating pace and accumulating gold at an unknown, but very significant rate, as well as opening an international metals exchange in direct competition with the West. Rate cuts make liquidity cheaper which encourages speculation in assets and also concerns about inflatuon. I was around for the last major run up on silver and gd and it was the rate cuts that kicked it off the last parabolic run up to the 40s.

>And no the fed didn't say they were going to cuts rates in December. Last week they said they would this year.

No they said they will if the right conditions are met whicj is whay they daid in december. What they do is make it sound like they will, or are open too. I.E the "credible threat" and let the financial markets project their desires. I expect these will not be a rate cut this year and even if there was it takes 6 months to a year for those cuts to make their way through the economy.

The FED has been very open about whay they want in their speeches which is to keep interest rates as high as they can to raise average inflation and the natural rate, but the financial markets im NYC are full of midwits who think quarter by quarter

Silver is currently cheap still, you just recently started looking.

This isn't an "investment" play, its a store of wealth, and the difference makes for a very different play and timeline.

If you actually scratch at the matter of use case vs supply, a low end of 2k an ounce is what most anyone comes up with for what to expect if prices ever corrected. Granted this USD benchmark itsself is now rapidly inflating thanks to bidenomics.

You buy silver to safeguard your wealth for the future, which means you buy as long as you have spare wealth to set aside. Any other way of looking at it is riddled with problems.

If you thought silver was an industrial metal, the platinum group is even more so. None of the six metals have any historical use as money. The market is virtually entirely based on the catalytic converter and which metal(s) are used according to current price.

Especially rhodium is volatile swinging from >$25,000 to around $5,000 in a little over a year.

I will not be buying any more of the platinum group as it is not as liquid and generally not considered money. However I would acknowledge a possibility of potential gains playing the game.

This is assuming equal distribution. In reality 90% of the population is probably fighting for ownership of 1% of the gold and 10% of the silver or something like that. Once silver starts skyrocketing I doubt it will be able to even be physically purchased. Most people will buy paper silver and then later get rugged.

Is it better to buy silver coins or silver bars? Also, is it worth buying online via APMEX or JM Bullion or is it better to buy them in person to not get raped by shipping fees?

>> No.58492445

>>58492429
Depends on how many oz you want. Per/oz premiums are lower for bars but they're uncommon in denominations lower than 10oz.
Buying online is fine, as long as you use either crypto or bank wire, the credit card fees are astronomical. Shipping is usually free on orders over 100$ or so. In person can be tricky because LGSs can scam you far easier.

>>58492445
>Depends on how many oz you want
I'm looking to buy 50-100 oz at once. With probably a lot more in the future. I dunno if it'd be retarded to have all that silver shipped at once or if it'd be fine.
>In person can be tricky because LGSs can scam you far easier.
But yeah, I figured. I'm also pretty new to commodities so it's not like I'm a savvy in the space or anything. I appreciate your advice anon.

>> No.58492493

>>58492466
At that amount I would definitely recommend bars. I would also recommend to wait because unlike almost everyone else here I think silver will go down again so now's not the best time to buy.
Also I meant LCS not LGS I'm retarded. LCSs love preying on newbies so it's definitely wise to go through a trusted online source, although they are a bit more expensive than what you *might* be able to haggle from an LCS boomer.

I’ve bought about 20 ounces from a local coin store and then a pawn shop in the last couple weeks, both of which are in small cities in the midwest, the pawn shop weighed the coins in front of me 1.005 troy ounces with a small price tag, and they are RMC rounds, i looked up what RMC rounds look like and they matched. do you think i’m safe?

Will do bars then, thanks anon.
>I would also recommend to wait
Fuck, I honestly hate to FOMO into silver, especially after yesterday's green dildo. At the same time, I feel this urge to frontrun the election. Dems love free money and Trump is already running around saying he wants to lower interest rates (on top of him being an Israel cuck) and so I just want to stack as much as I can before then. I figured I'd allocate a certain % of my paycheck to PMs moving forward, so even if I buy expensive today, I can probably pick up some some more cheaper if they do dump later down the line.

Interestingly, silver doesn't make big moves during most elections. Take the last one for example; silver crabbed for a good month before the election and didn't do anything until late December where it fluctuates due to the holidays like it does every year. If you have the money for it then by all means go in (don't go into fucking credit card debt like the other guy lmao), waiting for the next dip is just my personal recommendation.
>>58492543
>the pawn shop weighed the coins in front of me 1.005 troy ounces
Sounds good to me; sometimes a weight difference like that can be chalked up to either the scale or mint manufacturing error. If it was something like 1.1 or 0.9 I'd be way more skeptical.

It is now! Not long after the LME nickel fiasco, China opened a competing international metals exchange. Recently it has pulled away from LME and Comex prices - always higher. The arbitrage trade insures that the lower price is eventually forced up. It didn't get much press but it is the beginning of the end of Western dominance of the metals trade.

Yes. 10+ ounce bars tend to get you more weight per dollar, but divisibility is also nice so keeping a few tubes 1 ounce coins or rounds is also a good Idea. Maybe even some junk if you feel extra schizo.

Go to your local coin store and see what they have. I'm not sure if it's like this everywhere, but the ones around me sell generic rounds and bars for a low premium. You can sometimes get deals from bigger distributors like APMEX or Scottsdale Mint as well.

If you follow some of the links in OPs post you'll find more deals in other places.

Basically, if you're super new, just beware of ebay and other p2p sellers.

I am. I've been looking for some info and I know you pay some extra cash for coins instead of bars and things like that. still don't know if the IRS here (I'm not in USA) requires any notification if I buy gold. I should check that more. but basically now I'm afraid of going to an store and get wrapped lead instead of gold.
I should check out OP before doing further questions.

If you're worried about your local stores being dishonest, buy from a reputable online retailer. If you're not into metals for numismatic reasons, then stick to the generic rounds or bars. they have lower premiums than official coinage from government mints. We don't have to report anything to anyone in the US, but laws are different in many countries. Don't burn yourself out, but it would be smart to have at least 10% of your worth in gold or silver.
