Does anyone here make money selling scrap metal? I have a truck I can fit a lot of scrap in, but I'm not sure if driving around looking for it is worth it.

this is something that my friends used to do with one of their uncles. he lived in a van that he parked in a gas station and was apparently cool with the owners because they let him do it. So he'd take a bunch of teenage boys around to go rob construction sites for scrap metal. He was also an actual crackhead. So that's what comes to mind when you mention this commercial venture

waste of time.
do furniture. download nextdoor app, people give furniture away daily there. focus on bed sets, dressers, washers dryers and refrigerators.
i sell queen beds for a minimum of $100 and charge an extra 50 for delivery if they want
i sell everything on marketplace.
you can also go to goodwill type places, take pics of the furniture they are selling for cheap, create a listing for $100-$150 more than the listed price in store. someone wants it, go buy and deliver.
some weeks ive made over $1000 doing this

This is a relic of a time when making $40 meant buying groceries. Same with recycling cans in my state $0.10 per can in 1999 and $0.10 per can in 2024. Why bother?

Do you ever fix up the furniture? When I finally bother buying some property with space for a workshop I kind of want to get into buying + fixing furniture as a hobby with a little bit of financial benefit

how the hell can you not buy groceries for $40? Chicken thighs are regularly on sale for $1/lb

I collect abandoned appliances and use the parts to make improvised traps and weapons for my compound

not usually. just appliances. ive repainted some stuff before but i can get $60 for a dresser that i got for free or $200 if you make it look new and wait a month or two for a buyer. i like to get rid of what i have fast to make room for more

My folks do that still, they buy all kind of shit, sometimes they find cheap things that can be repaired and sold for profit, or find use in home. Later my pop started melting electronics to farm some gold did not give good amoutns per month but, gold is gold, good enough to have truflation an index on its value per pay.

My state does cans for 5¢, best trick is to just go to sporting/tailgates and just collect when the drunk college kids either pass out or go watch the game. Made $50 in one weekend doing this. Easiest part is just filling an old trailer with trash bags and getting $200 every now and then going to redemption center

just break into empty houses and take the copper.
Nobody is throwing out a washing machine.
Even if its not working people will sell them on facebook for $50 and some handyman will buy and fix it.
You are much better off buying non working shit in a semi well area, fixing it and reselling.

The market is oversaturated with low IQ antisocial rejects, you won't be able to compete.
