nope, in Florida its illegal for a corporation to boycott Israel..
This is worse than antisemetic speech as protests, of which boycotts are a form of protests, have been shown to be speech, further corporations generally have more rights than people in the USA.
So the most protected class, in one of the most conservative states, can not speak against Israel.

20 francs (almost) everyday, and not just for their historical value and because they are fun to collect.

Silver (and platinum) may have more growth potential, but gold is a security. >Any corporation that "boycotts Israel" in Florida is simply not eligible for government contracts.
Taking a company off of government contracts has very little effect, so what the gov does is removes them from the entire supply chain. If I do business with the gov, I have to swear in my FAR disclosures and declarations that I don't do business with any business that doesn't meet the requirements. States generally use the same format for acquisitions.

That's the part that keeps businesses in line even if they don't directly hold government contracts.

I understand that you know nothing about the law, but the supreme court came up with this thing called "government speech," and the government can choose to support or not support certain speech it deems good or bad.

This is why some states allow license plates that say daughters of the confederacy or pro-life, and some states ban those phrases on license plates.

The other consideration is that the acquisitions regulations of Florida affect the entire US and the world. Right? They're not just buying stuff manufactured in their own state. Companies all over do business with them, usually indirectly.

so any company that wants access to their market now has to abide by their rules, even if that company isn't located in Florida. If I have an end product I'd like to see sold in Florida, and it might end up in the possession of the state or its contractors, I now have to state a position on the rule, and provide that statement to any of my downstream vendors doing business in Florida, or doing business with someone else doing business in Florida, or doing business with someone doing business with someone doing business with someone....

Great gift for anyone thinking of buying a gift for young family. It popped out of the case and I could look at it but the MOST important thing about it is I grew up with some familiarity of silver and Eagles and all that stuff.

That was my first ounce, for my10th birthday in the mid 90s all I asked for was a silver dollar. I was into Wild West fiction and when I found out that silver dollars were still a thing I had to have one. My dad was probably glad considering the cost of an ASE at the time that all I wanted for a special birthday. We weren't poor but money was an issue; I was thrilled that I could ask for flank steak and green beans that weren't from a can. I remember that bday dinner like yesterday.

I'll sell everything I own before I sell that one ASE. Miss you, Dad

I think the volatility in the markets will be extreme. The banks still need to tamp down silver, but they are also having issues internally with short selling. I think they Fed step in and basically buys up everything at full price (as opposed to letting a crash occur). It's all convoluted.
I can't wrap my head around it, but I think at the heart of what happens is this: Everyone holding IOUs is going to call in their loans. And if the Fed starts printing smart money will take the next step and pivot from cash into PMs.

Its price was threatened by diminished use in catalytic converters for internal combustion engines. Now we see EV sales dropping off. That means EV is not the certain future we were being sold. That's good for Pt. It might also be part of why its price has risen to its upper mid range now.
Add that hydrogen fuel cells are an alternative becoming more viable, and Pt gains use again as a catalyst (though there are rumors less expensive alternative catalytic materials are showing promise).
I like it as a speculation.

It's good to have small portion of platinum along with gold and silver, as a speculative metal, and I agree with >>58403278

Platinum has a great growth potential depending on its future industrial uses (like hydrogen fuel cells). It's much rarer than gold, so if new uses arise its price will increase a lot, likely surpassing gold once again. Also it's unlikely that its price will plunge significantly, since it's a nice metal for jewelry and it will always be rare and have small uses in different industries.

However it was never used in a monetary system, unlike gold, silver or copper, because of its scarcity, hardness and higher melting point.

Water shouldn't damage the metals, but floods often leave mud. So en elevated location is good for that. Tornadoes though... the PMs should be in an armored, anchored container. A safe comes to mind, but you have to be sure the surrounding house isn't vulnerable to being blown away too.

A lot of things came together to push the price - CPI/inflation was up, banks and countries are buying gold (but *all* metals are going up), the pissing match that Iran seems to want to escalate, Israel/US relations being tense, Putin having dug himself into a hole, China's military buildup, space war platforms being launched...
I think gold is being panic-bought right now, and when a few things resolve and there's hope again, it might settle near $2K again.

wtf bros
opened my box of silver after well over a year, a few of the coins (2015 pandas, 2022 Australian dragon coin bar) have some crazy tarnish spots.
The tarnish on pandas is in the same spot as the fingernail cutout in the capsule. Inb4 tin panda - all of my silver is tested.
Does it mean the air is too sulfuric or something? How do I fix this?

>> No.58406826

>>58406813
My nan's old "25yrs since the war" commemoratives from 1970 have the exact same type of very localized tarnish as your dragon. They've been stored without capsules in a drawer with other silverware (without the same spots), so I suspect it's got something to do with the production itself (all four coins have the exact same tarnish spots).
You could just clean them. I'm not gonna because I think weird tarnish like that is kinda neat.

I would've thought that it's a Perth mint fuckup too, but that wouldn't explain the 3 Pandas that were right next to the dragon that have tarnished right next to the least airtight portion of the capsules.
Both the pandas and the dragon were some of my favs. Doesn't seem like the tarnish can be removed without damaging the frosty finish

I have coins inside capsules inside tubes inside a safe inside a closet, and I was inspecting them last week and noticed a few of them have tarnished. Silver is kind of a shitty metal, and it tarnishing, with seemingly no way to prevent it, is one of the reasons I prefer gold now. Idk of there was anything done during the minting process, or if the specific capsules contributed to the tarnishing, or what, but after seeing tarnish one a few coins, despite all the steps I took, it just reinforced my already existing preference for gold.

>I'd be better off storing them in a tube

Maybe not, from what I noticed, as soon as I left parts in tubes, I got milk stains, and mainly the first at the cap.

I think that capsules are the best solution, you just have to buy good capsules, those sold with the parts are very often of poor quality, sometimes they themselves create large opaque white spots in the middle, because there has been contact between the capsules for a long time.

For absolute best protection in full autismo mode, you can buy anti-tarnish paper, cut thin strips, and line the inside rim with the paper. You may need to buy larger capsules (40.6mm) to make room for the paper. Protip: put the coin in first, then feed the paper.
Alternatively, you can slip a large piece in whatever container holds the capsuled coins. Less work, not as certain, the paper may need periodic replacing, depending on how tight the seal and how often you open it.
As for the dragon bar, the ziploc baggie is shit for protection. Full autismo mode again: buy archival-grade plastic sheet (document) protectors, and use a seal-a-meal to make custom sleeves. Wrapping the bar with the paper before inserting is tricky, but can be done.

baking soda with a little distilled water to make a paste. Just use your fingers to rub it on the coin, let it sit a few minutes, and rub again. Takes a while, but works for light discolorations.

As far as gold:
-avoid bars, unless you can get them at least 2.5% cheaper than any big 6 bullion coin
-most of the time, the dealers most often pay the same price for big 6 coins, so buy whatever is cheapest BUT in cases of ties or near ties, get AGE/Buffalo > Maple > Roo > rest (I'm from EU - it's a lot different in the US and UK)
-I found historical gold more enjoyable than bullion, but bullion coins are definitely the most efficient, quick and liquid when it comes to cashing out
-don't underestimate jewellery, you can sometimes get it below spot and it's by far the best type of bug out gold

For silver:
-buy only big batches (tube or more) as cheap as possible
-only get smaller amounts if the price is crazy good, but make sure the seller is reputable.
-thooughever all you need to make sure that 999 pure silver is genuine is a measuring tool and a neodymium magnet, so you can take chances
-NEVER PAY PREMIUM FOR PREMIUM BULLION COINS. You will regret it or you'll trick yourself into believing that you didn't waste your money (and still regret it deep down). Stick to generic rounds as close to spot as possible. Seriously, any gold coin will always infinitely mog even the best designed silver coin. If you want eye candy, buy GOLD.

>What's the most important thing you have learned about investing in precious metals?
Avoid high premium silver. That's consumerism, so don't convince yourself it has any place in your investment strategy. This can be extrapolated even further to just buy gold an no silver, because even "low" premium silver comes at a significantly higher premium than gold does, thus requiring the price to increase many fold more to turn a profit when selling. Plus gold seems be the ship that drives the market, so why not just stick to it.
>What's the most significant thing for a beginner to know?
DCA. Regularly set aside money for monthly or quarterly purchases or whatever. Of you get swept up in the day to day price, you're likely to FOMO more than necessary and you're unlikely to time the market right.

Once you account for the premium paid when buying and the price you get when selling (that's often below spot for many things), the spread is just too great to make silver a worthwhile investment for me. The spot price simply needs to increase too much and it suffers liquidity issues that gold doesn't. If I had never bought silver and only bought gold, I'd be much better off today. You do you though.

silver has no liquidity issues. FUDing silver in /pmg/ is gay and always will be

even if you love gold, you should be buying silver, as the GSR is clearly on a path downwards. trade for more gold later

Where I live, the cheapest 1oz silver I can find is like 11% over spot.
If I bought now I would about break even once spot hits 32 bucks. I'll probably hold till at least $35 which seems decently realistic in a 2 year time frame, but just like >>58408748 I kind of regret not buying gold instead and I've been stacking Ag since 2017. Well desu I'd keep like 100oz of 2017 silver kek

>silver premiums are historically very low right now
>fucking 4% on 100oz bars
>historically low
It was 2% not but last month. Retail in the US is going insane rn, and every other country I hear about is even worse.
>whole reason VAT is there is so that people go "wow i shouldn't buy historically extremely undervalued silver
Yeah that's working pretty well because opportunity cost is a dirty whore. How much does silver have to go up to recover VAT plus premiums after 3 or 5 years? We've already gone like 8 years and SETF fantasies haven't materialized.

My main idea with buying silver is to offset inflation. Basically it's stayed pretty constant in value when adjusted for inflation, apart from a few spikes. but that bodes well, means you can buy silver low, it will keep it's value, and randomly spike high once every 20 years or so.

I feel bad for badmouthing silver but the reality is, silver and gold are nothing alike currently. No central banks are buying up silver, jewellery demand is dwindling every year. It's pretty much an industrial metal at this point so I don't know if GSR means much anymore.

>>58408775
as soon as the price rises, the dealers tell you it's spot or fuck off. Same as with gold but there's no VAT on gold.

My copypasta:
- For new generic bars, note the premiums (added charges) over spot: they go up for smaller pieces.
- Some beautiful generic items are priced comically high (Germanias, GSM special editions, e.g.). Regardless, dealers may categorize and price these as "generic" (below or at spot) when buying them from you. Or your gamble might pay off if they become highly regarded (Englehard, PAMP, antique miners/refiners, e.g.).
- The firsts of new artful or theme bullion series are often missed by later collectors, who may pay high premiums to fill in gaps. Caution: political or cringeworthy themes are less likely to appreciate.
- Low-mintage series are often priced very high, but may in time increase in value the most.
- Gov't-issued coins cost least during the mint run. Once ended and dealers run out of stock, their prices often jump, then rise a bit faster than generic silver.
- Annual changes to overall designs become series (Somali elephants, Canadian Wildlife, Australian kookaburras or koalas, island nations' series, etc.), adding potential appreciation.
- Maples, Eagles, Wieners, Britannias, etc. are nice and boring, but recognition helps sell to customers more comfortable and confident buying them.
- If you buy pieces that appeal to your sense of art, taste, and interests, you will still appreciate them even if the price or value of the PM goes nowhere. Caveat: if you go to sell, it's harder to let go of them.
- Shipping is an added premium. Many online vendors offer free shipping for purchasing a minimum amount (commonly $200). Your local coin shop has no shipping to charge.
- Vendors may charge extra for using a credit card. That might balance (ebay!) if your card offers cash back.
- Keep all sales receipts and a spreadsheet of your purchases to track profit/loss: it's quite revealing and may help guide future decisions. Example ("PurchaseRecords" tab):

You may recover a fraction of the premiums in some cases, but you should always regard them as lost money given physical PMs are a lifetime or multi-generational investment. Tax codes and trading conventions may change on a whim.

>>58408777
Maybe because the premiums have gone up 1.5-2x in a month?

Hey >>58408345, are you hearing this? There's actually no hold up with you selling your collection of bespoke bars. You can simply walk into any coin shop and they'll know exactly what each is worth, have as market for them, and will pay you handsomely for everything on the spot. Turns out you might actually he a FUD. I must admit that grand collection of bars you've acrued is quite the long game just to seed FUD in /pmg/ on 4channel, so bravo to your commitment to the bit!

>even if you love gold, you should be buying silver, as the GSR is clearly on a path downwards
I honestly don't give 2 shits what one thing is priced in another, beyond my fiat, but the fact that one is trending downward isn't indictive of it heing a good investment.
>trade for more gold later
Implying implications, anon. However there is 1 implications here that I agree with - that gold is what you actually want ultimately.

Yeah, I don't get that either. I've never had any issues selling silver if/when I wanted to. Also, when I did sell, I've never lost money on the transaction. I suppose if you're buying high-premium shit then it can happen, but most of my stuff is generic. I have my gold/silver ratio set at 1:100 but understand if someone wants to reverse those numbers.

tldr; not everyone is treating metals as an investment and that's okay.
