I think interest rates are not helping that much with inflation. I work in a dollar store, where lowering prices to account for lower demand is not really an option because they already keep shit as cheap as they can cause that's the draw to their store. The fed's goal is to lower demand and thus lower prices by forcing less consumer spending because of less money borrowing and more expensive housing/commuter financing right? Obviously businesses borrow money too, so high interest hurts their cashflow, and inflation makes things expensive for them as well. So how do they compensate? Well now my dollar store, along with cutting hours to the point where people can barely keep the store stocked, is starting to sell a bunch more 3-5 dollar things and even some of the traditionally $1 things are now going up to $1.75-$3.00. They have to make sure that they can squeeze a few more dollars out of the fewer people that are spending because it's literally the only way they can compensate for their higher expenses. This is an example of why interest rates don't necessarily mean lower inflation.
