This isn't accurate, and I fucking hate retarded financial "reporters" who don't understand verification of automated processes.
These Indians were verifying that the system's automated checks were correct. That means the system says "They checked out with bread and milk", and some jeet checks the footage that tracked that person and says "Yup, they grabbed bread and milk" or "No, that's wrong, they got bread, milk, and a candy bar" and marks the error down.
Any errors are going to get taken and examined. Why did it error, is there a blind spot to the candy bars? Maybe they're too small and the system has difficulty with small objects? That sort of thing.
I suspect the real failure of Just Walk Out stuff is that it just isn't feasible to ACTUALLY have computers track all the shit people do to stuff at he store. They have to keep track of picking stuff up, putting it down literally anywhere in the store like some people do when they realize they got the wrong thing (or maybe a kid threw something in the basket), as well as super small objects like sticks of gum or tic-tacs. You have to account for blind spots in the store, and all sorts of ways people might pick items up (what if an old lady uses a grabber? Does the system recognize that?).
Just way too many moving parts, but what I can safely say is the system wasn't a fake simply using jeets looking over footage all day and noting what you bought and generating the receipt.
You might as well have said our automated testing at my job is rigged because we manually verify the test results sometimes. You have to in order to ensure the system is sane and doing its job correctly.
