I want to get into investing and I have ~32k of contributing room in TFSA. I've never contributed or invested before. My investment goal is retirement at 35. I want to live with my parents until I'm 30 saving every penny then retire and GTFO. I want to put 10k into my TFSA and invest in VEQT (Vanguard All-Equity ETF) that is 100% stocks and no bonds. I've been reading some investing books and since the stock market always increases no matter what then I figured I should just go high risk and get as much returns as possible. I also want to put it in a DRIP so I constantly reinvest my dividend income into more VEQT stock. I don't plan on touching the money until I'm 30 at least (I'm 22 now). Is this a good strategy? Any and all tips welcome.

Even if you saved all $240k ($30,000/yr x 8), you'd be extremely far from ever achieving what youve planned.
Also the plan is to dump money into VEQT? Even from the Covid low, it's only up 88%...
You have no idea wtf youre even planning, its embarrassing that we share countries. I'm glad you want to leave.

Cope you shitcoiner.
>$240k
You're not including the amount I'd make from investing in ETFs, which would be a shit ton.

wtf are you talking, you fucking braindead fucking chink. I'm telling you 88% is *NOT* amazing returns in 4 years, and youre going to be EXTREMELY disappointed.
For reference, the $SPY is up 127% in the same amount of time. So you've already chosen poorly.
XIU would have also been a better choice, as it has a similar performance, but a higher div yield.
Do NOT @ me after this post, chink. I'm tired of you people shitting my country up. Civil war will make you into fodder or ex-citizens.

Anon you need to increase your income significantly. Like >>58273914 said there's no way you're going to retire early at 30 on that income even if you magically save every penny.

Just DCAing into VEQT is a good strategy over the long-term. But you never know we could have a lost decade coming up like 2000-2010 where stock gains were flat, which could ruin your plan to retire early.

Either that or take the risky path and bet on some cryptos that could potentially 10x or 100x.

Start one of those beavertail booths at Mel Lastman Square. You can write tickers with the icing and subliminally trick people into buying your shitty stonks for compounded returns

Not even remotely possible unless you are expecting a 7 figure inheritance + a house in that time.
>VEQT/XEQT
Forget what retard Canaboomers say, these are 30+ year holds. They are great ETFs, but not for quick money.

With your income you are playing the long game, steady investments until you hit 65 and then you can hopefully live off investments plus CPP. Leaving home is about the dumbest thing you can do, you should be dropping anchor and hope they give you the house. Look for a better job or go back to school. Trying to get rich quick off this market is going to end in disaster.

I don't think VEQT will appreciate in value enough for you to retire by 35. I used to mainly hold XEQT until I realized the same thing. Up your risk a little. Good luck bro

even if you live the most frugal life possible if you want to retire at 30ish and then live for another 50+ years, there is no way you are going to make it on $250k. stocks dont always go up, there are going to be bear markets along the way. from the end of 2021 until the start of this year sp500 wasnt going up. a broadmarket etf isnt an aggressive strategy, its maximum diversity to the point that you have almost no idiosyncratic risk. dca'ing into an index fund isnt a bad strategy but if you want to retire by 35 you need to either make more money or else take on higher risk for maximum returns. you need to either concentrate entirely into a few stocks, buy/sell options, or get into crypto.

You're better off buying HURA.TO, ENCL.TO and one or more gold/silver related ETFs (avoid the leveraged ETFs in your TFSA, they aren't meant for long term holds).

Boomer/femoid ETFs like VEQT are going to trade sideways. Commodities related ETFs is going to be the place to be, especially when the CPP win the election next year. And if they they don't, it's not going to matter because you'll be killed in the communist take over for having bourgeoisie investments.

I'm in a very similar boat. I don't get how I see old heads working their entire life. If investment calculators are right I can be a millionaire by 40. S&P 500 averages 10% growth, so with the million I could life off of nearly almost $100,000/year. People must be retarded.

Don't bother with TFSAs. I believe you can only invest in Canadian companies, which aren't competitive. I'm Canadian too, and quite honestly considering our situation, it's a risky time to even bother with these 'low risk assets'. While you are young it's better to invest in something more high risk high reward, since you are living with your parents anyways. I would buy some crypto, maybe take that 40k and do 20k bitcoin and 10k eth, keeping the last 10k as an emergency savings, reserve for something else. I use wealth simple and they have pretty good cash back on wealth simple cash if you use them like a bank account. Once you hit 100k on there, there's additional bonuses and u get an assigned consulter which is nice.

it's good you're starting young, but to retire in 13 years, when you're in a very low paying job is quite the long shot
you need multiple home run picks
since you're in canada, maybe you can get the inside scoop on some mining companies up there. if gold is in a new bull market, some miners will go up 5x, 10x, even 50x. of course picking the right ones are longshots, but your situation demands it.

I think I'll still be fine. I can live in a tiny cube and spend my retirement plugged into the metaverse, which will be dope when nueralink makes it the matrix in 20 years. The dream.
