Oil will decline in the West, proportionally their industrial output will decline.
Oil will become bigger in south America, Asia, africa, and possibly australia (not sure).
No 2nd world country who's serious about economic growth will dump oil investments. They will pretend to, as an act for Western investment. Western investments know this and will act along. But they all know they're just creating a situation where each side can blame each other so no one has to take the blame. It's a trick.
Europe will suffer but will invest in oil in 2nd and 3th world countries while preparing to go ultra high tech by producing nothing and just providing services. I'm not sure how that will play out, probably not as well as maintaining an industrial base. But since most money is made through investments from Europeans into other 2nd world countries, the money will still flow in and you're still on top no matter how little industry you have.

In any case Guyana found a huge oil field. Oil will get cheaper, and get bigger, not smaller.

My theory from a week or two ago is that there will never be another large crash of the market without a significant global calamity.

1) Americans will keep spending no matter what, to and beyond their limit as long as there is something they want being sold.
2) Its common knowledge after several crashes now that selling during a crash leads to a bigger overall loss than the market actually suffers.
3) The young generation has a much larger risk tolerance for loss

The market will buckle with small corrections, but not break.

Totally agree. And as long as the US dollar is a) fiat and b) the global reserve currency, a system exists that will indefinitely push the US economy higher, and all economies connected to it. More people in the world = more money in the world = line go up. I saw that Peter Lynch quote here yesterday about how corporate profits are basically expected to double every 8 years, and how the markets have lagged that a little bit in the last decade. Anyone bearish now is going to be so assblasted in 2030 when things are even higher "but everything is so much worse!!!!"

Declined oil use is just a pipe dream for liberal controlled governments and bureaucracy. As world population increases so will the need for oil and the products derived from it. As first world countries out source their labor needs they will also out source the areas where natural resources are acquired. Why shit up our countries with large holes in the ground and pollution when third word countries will do it for cheap. Also oil will need to be found and retrieved and that will be done by big oil while tapping into the cheap labor provided by brown countries. Oil will always win.

With regards to my aforementioned teacher, I'd like to provide some context.
He was a fundamentally good guy a joked a lot. He had his personal issues but most students, including myself, like him a lot. He joked often. He was a history teacher. In retrospect, I suspect he was referencing nations and currencies rather than individuals. I.e., a country that produces a currency, gets a lot of things and runs up a lot of debt, and then the currency collapses - that country is something of a winner. (Though perhaps pyrrhic victory.) He wasn't a genius or anything but was funny and well liked and gave somewhat askew life advice. I hope he's doing well.

The goal is for sure to increase it. Even the savings account is new, started it in Jan, though, so for now these are the highest I felt comfortable going right into doing.

In previous months I have gone paycheck to paycheck but that's been due to supporting family with stuff (£330 for a shower guy to show up is FUCKED). Part of the saving is to specifically make sure I set some aside instead of letting it get eaten up by that, actually.

The plan with the savings account was that beyond the £100, I'd also put most or all of what's left over in my main account from the previous month in when I got my next wage, but neither Jan nor Feb left me with anything even with effectively no personal expenses. Hopefully this month should be better.

Seriously though, why does GDP need to grow? What would seem more important is GDP per capita growth.

As far as I can tell, the biggest problem with declining population is the ability of governments to borrow cheaply because if there's a smaller population base, each taxpayer will need to pay more.

Which is part of the reason China's insane. They are spending incredible amounts on infrastructure that will be due for replacement when their population base is smaller in coming decades and labor is more expensive.
