One of the problems is that the price of houses are inflated greatly. The biggest reason for this is because banks lend out for the purpose of buying houses. This drives up the price greatly, because so many people now have so much more money to buy a house.
It artificially creates a much much greater demand for housing, driving up the price.
Banks create money out of thin air for buying houses where there were no money before. This of course creates a big price inflation.
If you print a lot of money into the market for the specific purpose of buying potatoes, then all the potatoes will quickly be bought up, and next the price of potatoes will skyrocket. People will hoard potatoes and hold on to them, hoping they will go up in price.

Lifestyle and opportunity cost. Run all the numbers. A lot of people focus too much on wanting to never be in debt. Having a house with low equity can still be cheaper than renting and you generally get better options. If you do pay it off, then its an investment for your family. If you're single and regardless of equity you can rent out part or all of it. Although owning a house has more maintenance cost than renting it can save money since you can do work on it yourself and make changes to make your day to day life more functional. I'm renting and it's killing me that I cant change the electrical in this shit box. You can also use a house as collateral so its not like the money is completely gone as you make payments, whereas when you rent, the money definitely is gone forever. But idk man i have friends that tell me they wish they took their house downpayment and got into crypto farming instead. If you have real ways to increase your cash flow with whatever capital you've got, dont throw that away for a house, unless you know your arent disciplined enough to grow your wealth, in which case a house is safe assuming you have a skill that provides income
