i dont even know what it does besides "make chainlink obsolete"

I looked into canisters because they sounded interesting, they basically perform the same function as a chainlink oracle at a fraction of the cost but with very big security holes. The problem is that the data reporters have no incentive to tell the truth other than damaging their reputation. If there was a potential to liquidate several billion dollars by reporting fake information there is no financial incentive not to. There is no financial repercussion stopping multiple data sources from colluding to steal that money other than damaging their own reputation.

This goes against the entire purpose of creating a trustless system and is inferior to chainlink oracles at being able to handle large amounts of money in a trustless way.

Web3, is a set of values and technical applications that define a new era of the World Wide Web. Prime Web 3.0 examples include ubiquity, decentralization, artificial intelligence, blockchain, and connectivity.

thats a whole lot of word salad. considering AI already exists on web 2.0 and that web 2.0 fits the term "ubiquity", and you could argue that ICP is centralized with the majority of their network on AWS

Gee, I wonder how Vanguard or Fidelity price feeds aren't constantly being hacked. All chainlink does is take a bunch of price feeds. remove the outliers and average the rest. How ingenious. They've captured the market for 2nd grade math.

More interactive without the need for third party permission would be a better description. What blockchain does for finance, Web3 will do for all the resources on Web 2.

>What does ICP fo that Filecoin can't?
I'm not sure of all of Filecoin's capabilities but I think its mostly decentralized data storage. ICP can store data but it can also store and execute software that is larger and much more complicated than the average smart contract. You can host a website(front end and back end) on ICP on their independently owned, decentralized data center network.

>Avax has the same capabilities as Eth. It may be faster and cheaper than Eth but it is also more centralized. Whether it is actually faster and cheaper is really unknown since its doesn't carry the loads that ETH does. Same with Solana. Neither Solana nor Avax can host websites or execute the types of software that ICP can. There is nothing Avax or Solana can do that ICP can't do.

The simple truth is decentralized oracles are not needed as evidenced by the current financial system which doesn't have a problem with centralized price feeds. The only people who believe they are a critical part of the ecosystem are Linkies, Unfortunately for Sirgay, linkies don't use his price feeds. They just cope and seethe while he dumps on them and buys Lambos. If crypto goes mainstream, a centralized entity will see how much money Sirgay is trying to skim off the ecosystem and create a centralized more secure version that includes insurance for a fraction of the price.
>but muh decentralization
The future mainstream crypto eco system will be a mix of centralized and decentralized entities. Not everything needs to be decentralized . In fact, some of the simpler processes would be better left to a centralized business entity. You don't need a billion dollar blockchain to do 2nd grade math.
>but muh CCIP
I don't even know what that is. But if I know Sirgay its an opportunity for him to continue dumping on you and buying Lambos for many bull runs to come.

are you running a node? Do you know any pissdrinkers running a node? In fact picrel is the hardware requirements to run a node. Do you have the hardware to run one if you wanted to? Probably less than 0.1% of americans do.
In fact it's so centralized, the NSA could knock on Dfinity's door and shut this project down within a day. It's an unregistered software company after all, with a CEO and a development team and a marketing budget.
>m-muh blockchain
Buzzword. It's inefficient as fuck and when it's this centralized there is zero reason to use blockchains over traditional setups.
Blockchains have one use case only, separating money from state. Using it for anything else is retarded.

>> No.58125780

>>58125651
I know little about ICP, but someone has to try it. Maybe it's efficient currently but it's good if this space gets explored.
Regarding nodes, a central idea of crypto are DAOs who could run them.
Maybe ICP itself is a flawed idea (or maybe it isn't and will transform the web), but in amy case, it's good that someone tries.

>Give me one reason I should use this over AWS or MS Azure
You shouldn't unless you want to integrate your project with the web3 resources that will be a part of the IC.
>are you running a node?
No, but I am running a train on your Mom later tonight.
>Do you know any pissdrinkers running a node?
I don't know anyone who drinks piss. Where are you going with this?
>In fact picrel is the hardware requirements to run a node. Do you have the hardware to run one if you wanted to? Probably less than 0.1% of americans do.
No, but since I don't want to run a node then it doesn't matter. Are you trying to say ICP is bad because poor people can't run nodes? Who cares. Why would IC allow substandard hardware in their decentralized data center network. It needs the hardware it needs to run and be stable. ETH is the same way. In fact, any of the top L1's have minimum standards for running nodes.
>In fact it's so centralized, the NSA could knock on Dfinity's door and shut this project down within a day.
The Dfinity Foundation is based in Switzerland. The NSA can't do shit. Not that they would have a reason to.
>It's an unregistered software company after all, with a CEO and a development team and a marketing budget.
This is retarded and doesn't deserve a response.
>Blockchains have one use case only, separating money from state. Using it for anything else is retarded.
Stay poor. I'm in crypto to separate money from whoever is giving it up. I don't care if it is the state or a cringy crypto-anarchist wannabe like you. I'm probably going to reinvest my earnings back into boomer stocks.
