So, tell me, /smg/
How much networth do you have, and what's your objective? 34 and 290K€ here.
Unironically I don't need too much to retire, I'm alone, and I live the NEET life, and will do so until I die. I bet I could just live off 500 or 600K mostly on a S&P500 ETF, and a bit on bonds/monetary/comfy oil divies shit. I'll probably need less than that if I move on elsewhere cheaper. And I should inherit at least 150K€ down the line anyway.

I have a theory that the US stock market is in a pre-1929 type situation. Huge budget deficits supported only by blind purchases of US treasuries, geopolitical instability and the teetering position of the US dollar as a reserve currency, domestic political instability and a generation that has never seen a real stock market crash propping up the passive investing bubble all mean that prices have become dangerously disconnected from fundamentals. I'm not talking a 10% correction, but a 60% drop in SPY in the space of a couple months. Historians will write books about it wondering how no one saw it coming.

invest in physical images and other data. hear me out...
as time passes more AI data will be created, data centers will be flooded with this AI slop, but you see you need source material to train the AI systems for Gen AI to make the models etc. so as time passes the clean/prime source material gets whitewashed with the slop producing a subpar or inferior product.

michael burry who famously predicted 2 out of 20 recessions, yeah. major economists and officials and experts and journos - all 9 yards - have a stake in keeping things going up and its up to you to believe that to either be coordinated or not or if all of them are just full of shit and dont know jack or his shit. thing is, wiith complex adaptive systems you will never have one catch all solution or explanation for a single let alone all the facets of said system.

youre correct in regard that a recession "should" hit at some undefined point in time, yeah, and thats where the issue is. with your line of thinking a crash could happen anywhere from tomorrow to any other day in the next 10 years. expecting and preparing for it means youre either shorting and losing money or youre sitting on cash while inflation and opportunity cost eats at it bit by bit. for my own personal goals id rather invest bit by bit and if a huge dump happens dca over time.

Including my home/car/physical assets and less my mortgage, I think I'm near the $900k mark at 32. I'll probably cross $1m by EOY.
> What's your objective
Currently single, goal is to find a wife and start a family. Money isn't a concern beyond wanting my wife to also have a decent job (I have absolutely no interest in being a sole breadwinner). If for whatever reason I can't do that (or even further, can't adopt/foster because raising kids is important to me but hard to get through the system as a single man) then I'd likely pivot to focusing on moving to Europe and early retirement. Retirement goal would be in the ballpark of $3m saved, but if I'm able to rent out my current house for cashflow and get a second house then that number could potentially be lower.

It really depends on which stage of investing you're in when the crash happens. If you're 25 and just started investing, then sure DCA all the way. You won't lose much and will retire comfortably. If you're 50 and have invested most of what you're going to invest already, then a crash will really hurt you and you should try to avoid it. If you're 65 and about to retire when the crash hits, then you're absolutely fucked. Of course by then you should mostly be in bonds anyway, so if it happens it's kind of your own fault.

I actually have the reverse theory.

All this growth is actually actually just the markets filling the gap for the 2000-2012 Market Depression. No I don't care that markets "recovered" in 2008 the market literally had a 20% crash a month later.

Every Depression:
Long Depression
Great Depression
Great Recession (I'm calling it the Millenium Depression fuck off Juden)

Was followed by markets going parabolic. Hell the S&P looks exactly like the 1955 breakout.

This stock market is too easy man. Just buy anything and you get 20% per week... wtf?
I seriously want to know though... when the hell to sell? This market can easily squeeze out another 50% by next year. Or maybe not. Equity premium is getting pretty bad.
But the market is just looking for any opportunity to buy despite the low volume. FEDEX just pumped 12% afterhours on an ok report. This shiet will continue until?

I read investor presentations for a variety of companies' IR sites. You can gauge really well the good ones from the bad ones just by reading those powerpoints. It is a lot less work than FA and form reading with a similar impact. Cytokinetics as an example https://ir.cytokinetics.com/static-files/be82d774-0a50-49f7-bf8e-d4095aaf3de4 has lots of jargon and is buried within the investor relations site. Likely not a good buy. HCA on the other hand https://s23.q4cdn.com/949900249/files/doc_downloads/investorDay2023/MASTER-LEGAL-BOOK-110723.pdf has lots of easy to read graphs + goals (speak to me as if I were a golden retriever) and was front and center on their IR page. Also, you have to be ready to wait it out and not panic. See pic related how QQQ is now again at an ATH, but TQQQ has not recovered. Just that, of course, why would you give a shit when TQQQ has consistenly been a much greater investment over the longer term. >In 2020, Neta Crawford, chair of the political science department at Boston University, in her Costs of War Project, estimated the long term cost of the Iraq War for the United States at $1.922 trillion. This figure includes not only funding appropriated to the Pentagon explicitly for the war, but spending on Iraq by the State Department, the healthcare of Iraq War veterans, and the interest expense on debt incurred to fund 17 years of U.S. military involvement in the country.

>This Time Is Different: Eight Centuries of Financial Folly
>Throughout history, rich and poor countries alike have been lending, borrowing, crashing—and recovering—their way through an extraordinary range of financial crises. Each time, the experts have chimed, “this time is different”—claiming that the old rules of valuation no longer apply and that the new situation bears little similarity to past disasters. With this breakthrough study, leading economists Carmen Reinhart and Kenneth Rogoff definitively prove them wrong. Covering sixty-six countries across five continents, This Time Is Different presents a comprehensive look at the varieties of financial crises, and guides us through eight astonishing centuries of government defaults, banking panics, and inflationary spikes—from medieval currency debasements to today’s subprime catastrophe.
