Okay I'm bored at work so I'm going to give you a quick lesson. The key principal of investing and economics is that risk equals reward. That's common knowledge but what isn't is that this risk is quantifiable. You can say where it comes from.

For example with bonds it comes from "default risk" and "term risk" aka how likely the bond seller is likely to pay you back and how long the bond is. The riskier the more long term payoff.

For stocks there are two forms of risk. Beta and alpha. Beta is the easiest and it translate to how much of the market you own. Simply put, you max out your beta by buying everything. So VTI and VXUS.

Alpha risk comes from other factors like size and value. Sorry to the dividend fags but they don't add additional risk of beta or alpha. For your portfolio, you max out beta by buying 60% VTI and 40% VXUS. If you wanted to add alpha you'd go for a small cap value fund.

It's fine if you want divys or stocks etc. But you need to understand that they don't actually add any additional risk and so reward. Even individual stocks are called "idiosyncratic risk" which means a form of risk that is NOT guaranteed a reward.
