I dont think bitcoin will be around in 10 years
When someone finds a massive use case for blockchains like chatgpt for LLM's its gonna be game over for bitcoin and the digital gold meme will finally be put to rest

Store of Value is not new, SoV is omnipresent as it's a vital economic function. Something will be used as a SoV, and that thing will develop SoV value, value as a SoV, supported by demand for SoV. Bitcon is the world's first fixed unit of account, trustless, stateless, transparent, can be securely self-custodied. A quantum leap in stores of value.
>so why isn't it already a billion trillion dollars?
Network effect. Capitalization. That's all that's left, and its network of use as a SoV grows each day.

Network effect is a positive feedback loop in a SoV as buyers of SoV want the SoV that others use, it's already passed the point of no return, this halving marks the inflection point where BTC inflation (1.7% now) falls well below gold's mining inflation (2%), at all future points BTC will only ever be a better and better fixed unit of account, there are no brakes on this train.

there won't be a bitcoin killer. until people forget about crypto and blockchains you will only see scams. it's been that way since ethereum. greed has killed every good idea that has happened in alternative blockchains. there was a time when I was waiting for the bitcoin replacement. I don't think I'll see it in my lifetime now. Maybe if quantum computing actually comes to fruition it could be disruptive enough to make people do something better from scratch. But it will be too soon and all the new projects will be shitty cash grabs, instead you'll just see a bitcoin fork thats quantum resistant.
Look at how successful ethereum has been and how it has underdelivered on every promise and squandered every opportunity. Smart contracts, blockchain dns, nfts are all "killer apps" but when your smart contracts are nothing but a way to pump out shitcoins, your "web3" is a farcical version of the .com bubble and silicon valley startup culture, and your nfts are hyperlinks to randomly generated "art," you've effectively killed the potential of blockchain technology. At least bitcoin is still a hedge against inflation, and at least theres monero to work as the "digital cash" many people wanted bitcoin to be used for. Have any other blockchains ACTUALLY delivered on ANYTHING?
Two ideas that haven't been ruined yet are decentralized secured file storage and gpu sharing. They are technically difficult to pull off, and hard to fake-deliver since either I can back up my files for a fee and redownload them or I cant, and either I can run cuda/opencl on someone elses gpu for a fee or I cant. There have been attempts on both but they aren't very usable.
Don't get too pessimistic. If crypto loses it's spirit, then in the future the purpose of blockchains will be tracking everything you do. CBDCs, block chain employment records, incarceration records, driving records, social score, etc. The real battle is in saying "fuck you we're using bitcoin, not your slave system"

>> No.58043513

the real battle is rejecting centralization under one "coin", the coin that bagholders desperately want everyone else to buy for their own enrichment. you talk about decentralization but reject the core premise of cryptosystems as permissionless gateways to freedom. you just want to corral people into your shitty slave pen

>when someone finds a massive use case for blockchain
There is one and it is outlined in satoshis whitepaper. About all the other usecases: 10 years and billions dollars later and nothing sticks. Blockchain is useless except for Bitcoin.

Bitcoin causes as much seethe as the Northern European races do. That's how you know it's already won.

I see a lot of hypothetical use cases for blockchains
Actually in particular what bitcoin does well for the world as we speak right now is distributed energy usage. It would make solar power, for example, so much easier to implement all over the world if there was a quick use for them, for PoW for example, to sell your extra power to, locally, if possible.
Obviously bitcoin has massive mining pools so this will never catch on fully with bitcoin, but i can see this being a thing in the future where people all around the world utilize some PoW system together with solar power and other power sources. It also makes the energy market global, which is a good thing, as anything that can be put on a market will be utilized far more efficiently than when it is fragmented
ICP, for all the memes thrown around here, shows promise for web3, i dont know what types of applications at the moment would massively benifit from this, but thats why i said in 10 years, i can see some real benefits emerging from there
Bitcin as it stands will not survive into the future, the protocol is too simple and forces centralized mining pools due to the asics bullshit, until they become truly localized this wont be something that bitcoin massively benefits
