Well I did make 500% gains on a few alts in the last 2 months, but I lost half of those gains swining the profits into other alts that went nowhere while bitcoin continued to go up, not really fun when the entire point of me doing the alt-game is to get more bitcoin

Take a break for awhile and just observe the alt market while you sit in Bitcoin. Then if you get into alts again later when it makes more sense, you may have a better grasp of what makes alts tick (narrative and trend awareness for example, like a certain narrative seeing an uptick in popularity making it more likely for specific alts to moon a bit).

I'm assuming you dove into alts pretty quickly. Maybe a break where you nonetheless watch alts like you weren't doing before as a maxi, will give you more perspective one way or the other. Do pretend trades during this period where you say how they would have turned out if they were real.

Most of the more sober biz alt anons seem to say it can occur as a mania well after halving.

I'm basically the same, i'm probably up like 50% total right now. I'll probably just sit on what I have (barely any just like 2k total spread over like 5 coins) incase one blows up but just going to stick to btc from now on.
Will be fun if one goes up an order of magnitude or two but if they go to 0 i wouldn't really be bothered either.
