The government bonds is sort of the inflection point on this whole chart to where shit really starts getting screwy. There are so many government bonds outstanding that even back in 2008 they had to use bank-checks to buy up bonds off of the market (no private individual or institution could afford them) and deposit them at the fed. That's when the Fed balance sheet grew like $4-8TN overnight.
The actual tax base is already bogged down with debt, real estate prices, student loans etc. It's absurd to think you can just pile on another $200,000 for every taxpayer.
Metafinancially, without paying any heed to the tricks the banks can do to kick the can, the collateral backstopping the higher levels is already worthless and even today the Treasury has to sell bonds just to pay interest. (Let alone repay a single dollar of the debt which would crater the economy worse than the great depression). On any human lifespan this will still feel like it could take forever, although it is starting to look like shit is finally starting to crack at the seams. Could it stop tomorrow? Unikely. Can they can kick 3-5more years? maybe. Will this last 10 years? Doubt it.
