This car had 5-point harnesses for racing. They didn’t engage the shoulder portions and instead used only the lap belts. A 5 point harness is street legal in any car, but in a car this old they only legally need the lap belts anyway. In my 64 I don’t have any seat belts and it’s legal

Many drag strip queens run modified autotragics with ratchet shifters that can force the transmission into a specific gear. They're common because those things can handle a gorillion torks without exploding into bits, shift much faster than a manual transmission and pissing away power into the torque converter and other bullshit doesn't really matter when you're already making so much power you can barely lay it down on the tarmac.
