PhD's generally only make marginally more money than master's degrees and can make you seem overqualified, if you don't already have industry experience. The best course of action is to get industry experience whilst studying, work a few years, then go for a PhD, if you want it/if your desired position demands it. The only time it may be demanded is if you work in STEM for defence, or if you want to work in a university
