What are the financial implications of this? Won't this cause massive deflation? Wont this cause political and social turmoil? What are the 50 million illegal immigrants going to do for work, why would anyone go to school or pay taxes or participate in such a society? (((they))) are pulling the ladder up on you. If you didn't make it already, that door is closing rapidly.

False. This DID happen with industrialization, remember that median household income in 1970 was 235oz of gold. The decline in real terms incomes since '71 is an artifact of monetary expansion, as new money will always flow preferentially into low impedance assets

It's a bit more complicated than that. I believe some white collar jobs will be impacted first (mostly programmers and "corporate" artists), followed by certain types of blue collar work (i.e., manufacturing stuff). I imagine engineers and research scientists will be among the last to be affected, and if you make a robot that can fix machines and conduct experiments, you can also probably make one that can fix plumbing.

But I also think people vastly overestimate the ability of these programs to actually do any jobs by themselves. The only reason why new and novel jobs might not spring up after a period of disruption is because regulations and inflation are making entrepreneurship/innovation prohibitively difficult.

To a degree yes. The issue with actual physical labor being replaced is that it is unironically cheaper to just keep paying a human vs buying, transporting, and maintaining a robot to do that work.
I actually had a fun discussion because someone tried to pull that on me and I was like.

"Roru, Rumao even some guy at a computer is FAR easier and cheaper to replace then a person putting products on a shelf all day."

>>57817009
The issue is how does the robot get to the location to do the plumbing job. I am sure it can get figured out but again it is just easier to replace some guy pressing buttons then it is to justify the cost of replacing a plumber.

It's more like 2 years away, the advancements in dexterity and generality has increased exponentially over the last couple of years. We also found we could just put a LLM like GPT4 into a robot body and it would just "know" how to move by reading the blueprint and signals of the robot.

2 years away from being able to do carpentry (slower but working 24/7) 5 years from being as good as median carpenter and 10 years for carpentry to not be a human endeavour at all.

Those machines don't actually "break", it's always that the staff forgot to clean them on the close the night before, and being full of milk overnight, they grew sticky green mould, which means they need to be disassembled and professionally cleaned by the technical staff of the Taylor company before they are safe to use again.
Self-cleaning machinery solves this particular problem, though you're right the robots still will break often, and require high, skill high IQ employees to fix them (read: fire 10 low wage workers and hire one high wage worker)

This. Brown people are too stupid to learn to use automated ordering and checkout systems. They also steal everything they think they can get away with. And I use the term “think” very loosely. Basically if there’s not a large white man standing between the thing they want in the door, they will take their chances on just stealing it.
