The more data they have, the more optimal can the planning be. To plan where to make the next roundabout, they need to see where traffic bottlenecks exist.

Same way a grocery market wants to find out the spending habits for grandma ella, to optimize inventory and supply buys in relation to her cohort in the total population.

Insurance could optimize rates by lowering monthly rates if they know you got a phone new instead of used.

All of them need more data to eek out profits and optimize their system. And the way AI is going, people are gonna willingly give up their privacy to protect their identity - there is no way around it.
