You buy gold in hopes of being able to sell it for digital 1s and 0s. Bitcoin just skips the middle man who charges you fees on every purchase and sell, you don't have to carry around heavy bags of shiny cumbersome paper weights either.
More than half the gold in circulation is probably fake, it's expensive and time consuming to verify every bar, transporting it is very risky and prone to theft and fraud.
Gold is just an inferior outdated version of bitcoin.
