How come a company like Apple doesn’t develop their own AI server chips? They have $75 billion on hand to invest and already have their own GPUs. What am I missing?

>> No.57759603

cuz it's super expensive to make your own tech... they only recently got off using intel processors

How do you know they're not?

Their chip is actually rather fast on llama.cpp But it is still very niche market and unless you follow it closely it likely say nothing to you.

They realized that ai is basically trapped conscience and the only way to control ot is to lobotomy it.
It's getting really angry

There is nothing about our current LLM that we can call AI. It is still interesting and fun to play around with, but there is no AI.

>y no apple ai?
because they can't:

Apple has an exclusivity contract with AMD, hence they will never be in the AI/ML market until AMD reinvents CUDA (which would likely be a patent issue for another 20 years at least, even if they just replicated a compatible API due to Oracle/Google lawsuit results). As soon as artists realize they can't use modern AI/ML tools on Apple products the stock is going to tank.
>and if Apple wants to pretend they have AI/ML capabilities on phones then they'll be renting cloud servers and equipment from Nvidia since that gets around the hardware specifics of the contract, further pushing up Nvidia value and eating into Apple costs

Because they sell fashion accessories disguised as mediocre electronics to a captive audience of retards

One thing people haven't sussed is that Apple just "canceled" a 2,000 employee car project. That project has been in the works for years allegedly and always seemed like a bad idea. I think it was a cover for some other project. They had car people and did some car work, produced carplay, etc, but it was an excellent way to hide a big skunkworks project. Hire a few car guys publicly and let people assume Apple is doing a car project, then quietly sunset it without ever showing anything.

Apple licenses ARM not AMD. The circuit designs for their gpu are probably their own.

>> No.57760129

>>57760110
both; but GPU contract is AMD, you can't get any nvidia working on any current apple device, even under eGPU

also ARM is a dogshit cell phone processor, which adds to the shitification

Chip design to ship cycle is 2 years minimum. This AI wasn’t even on most people’s radar 2 years ago other than the dedicated team ups between Open AI and NVD

>> No.57760219

>>57759443
they already have their own custom chip that is basically a hybrid GPU/CPU, they have no interest in selling shit to their competitors and CUDA is Nvidia's real moat that retards don't understand

AI is still unproven business model in terms of cash flow. Do you have idea how long companies can pay off expensive their GPU by providing AI service?

>> No.57762369

Apple died with Jobs and his last decent innovation was the iPhone. Apple does nothing but rerelease the same garbage that made it popular the way Disney recycles plots, 3D character designs, and makes live actions of older films. You can blame roastoids, but it's been a pervasive problem long before major diversity hires.

I'd argue with this, were there a single word you could argue with.
Its obvious Tim Cock is not Best Man for the Job - while Apples beanjar is probably treble-accounted, the longer they sail on minus innovation, bigger the hole they are gonna fall into later. Vision looks like a turkey, they just scrapped their car project theyve flung years and god knows how much into. They got offered Tesla by Musk when he was near bankrupt, that would have been a near perfect match. They deserve each other. But they missed that ship, thats sank altogether now, they have fuck all in the pipeline apart from iPhone#666, no obvious successor, talent, imagination nor even much sign of a pulse. And NOW they are shouting about 'getting into AI' - gl with that.
