CB has never been reliable under high load. it's so standard that I assumed it was a meme when people starting posting about it. their surge capacity isn't great because they have to keep everything in house for security instead of relying on third-party routing. that's a good thing. Also i assume they don't improve it because they gain nothing from people panicking and trying to rush to cash out or sell or even buy.

>circuit-breaker.

Coinbase has had these same circuit-breaking features for as long as I've known about CB. It is literally standard for them to be unreachable at the top when most are trying to rush to sell/cash out/etc. Literally every time - it's part of my strategy to sell 2-3 days prior to when I expect a top to avoid this rush. I sell to USD and the cash is in my bank account the morning before every retard tries to cash out and can't even log in to the site.

You don't know what you don't know, namely how a website like Coinbase functions. There is one server that loads the website. Another server that echecks your username/password and loads your "profile." Then another server that checks against a database of your holdings. Too many people logged in and asked for their holdings, so the server that handles that took a shit. As a result, any attempt to show holdings shows "zero" because there is no server on the other side responding. The server/database that actually contains your holdings data is still there, it just cannot be accessed by the website at the moment.

This is why no one is going to use their stupid base bridge and will instead use other bridges. The "official" bridge actually says 7 days to swap eth back to mainnet lol.

Never keep the bulk of your crypto on a CEX, especially CB. They are not your friends.

Surely, but I suspect Coinbase locks trades at intense volume moments in order to prevent buffer-overflow type attacks. If you write a proper algo and scheme you can arbitrage in such moments in a way that lets you make out with holdings you never had - IE you could potentially sell/trade things twice before systems could update. By the time the discrepancy is reconciled at CB, you've already got the money transferred two wallets away. By slowing/locking trades at such times you avoid this. Good security feature, IMO.

This is why altcoins with low market caps will never catch on. One platform may screw its users (even if temporarily), but it doesn't really affect Bitcoin due to the 1T+ market cap. This could have killed an altcoin, but Bitcoin is already so solid that it's just a buying opportunity for the people unaffected.

seems like net outflow reached a critical threshhold so they turned off trading by having a *glitch*. When you buy on coinbase they are probably not actually buying the coins immediately. So if enough people buy, the price then goes up for whatever other reasons, and those earlier people start selling, that is technically considered a short position on coinbases books because they are completely liable for the cash/tether the user is receiving so they just turn off trading instead.
