>trustless & decentralized Proof of Stake
Does it exist, technically speaking?

>> No.57703154

>>57703127
No, all proof of stake networks are ultimately permissioned by the developers.

the challenge is distribution. ethereum did it by starting out PoW

Even if you distribute, network control centralizes over time and is permanent once gained.

in practice PoW has the same problem, with the added cost of consensus weakening security

>> No.57703601

No, gaining control in a PoW isn't permanent and the consequences of a 51% attack are minimal relative to PoS. You can spam the network or double spend your own coins. But in addition PoS validators can rewrite the chain, and control transaction relaying since nodes & miners are combined in validators. Plus Bitcoin miners now have the ability to create and submit their own block templates to a pool, further mitigating miner centralisation.

>oh yeah bro crypto is totally safe and secure its not like its been hacked hundreds of times and stolen billions of dollars but you know its got this 'immutable' ledger or whatever the blockchain is and you get to be part of this cool club of people that get a hardon at being 'decentralized' man the only thing decentralized about crypto is how it can be stolen if you don't have like 8 different passwords

Retard alert. Throwing around terms you sort of but don't really understand exposes your retardism. "Nodes and miners are combined in PoS". Retard, anybody can run a full node without running a validator. And its the same in PoW, a miner is *necessarily* also a full node but people can run full nodes without being a miner. Chain history can theoretically be rewritten in the same way in PoW too. A 51% attack can switch the dominant (longest) chain to whatever chain they want with any amount of updated history in theory. In theory because its not actually a concern for the same reasons your retarded hypothetical concerns about PoS aren't either. Both PoS and PoW can perform user activated forks (social consensus) to get around miner or stake. Guess what? Bitcoin already did one with SegWit to sneak in changes that miners didn't want to implement.

What's the role of non-mining nodes in PoW?
