trying to "make it" or move to a city is basically gambling

there is no other way to justify why someone would move to a city, basically in 9/10 situations you'll be worse off trying to make it in a city, than trying to make it in a small town, or just giving up and moving into the sticks making the bare minimum but still being comfy

the cityslicker lifestyle is basically a state of compulsive gambling, you could be stabbed tomorrow on the subway, but maybe goldstein will give you that promotion to keep up with your 1k rent increase

I would say that it can't be understood, but the truth is, people are barely functioning on the level of rats, they drift along unable to think about long term consequences, they're playing a lottery rigged against you

no I think it was pretty logical, people spend their lives gambling to "make it", basically the entire process of participating in the current civilization is not only degrading, but you have very low probability of "winning" or getting things you want, my solution is rural land, and not working, trying to live a life in line with normal humans from previous times in history, which is currently not how most people live
