>electrical engineer

>build dumb circuits for dinosaur tech used by oil field boomers
>only know how to program in assembly language
>never bothered learning any higher level languages due to laziness
am I going to survive this upcoming layoff wave or am I doomed to be replaced by AI as well?

You are insulated pretty well since you work for an industry stuck in 1972 that produces something everybody needs.

AI isn't causing any of the current layoffs, it's the interest rates biting.

AI can't code in the assembly language of whatever shitty ancient microcontroller your boomer company is using.
even if it could, the code would be so awfully inefficient it would bottleneck that pos 1mhz
thingy so bad they'll run back to you.
that or they'll start using an high level language like C and completely replace you with some pajeet.

If you know assembly, you could learn C in a week, and with another month or two learn C++, but if you prefer to be a lazy retard then yeah you're probably safe for now since no zoomzoom coming out of school or even the majority of FAGMAN senior and staff devs know any low level programming and as far as AI goes, we're at least 5-10 years away from automating away developer jobs.

AI can’t code. It can make awesome frames though. But even if you’re a Webshitter, your job is safe. Only the fiver Jeets fear the AI Chad.

Will learning to code make you the next Elon Musk, Bill Gates, etc.? Fuck no, even if you have an original and revolutionary idea.

Now should you pursue a career in this? No probably not, it’s incredibly difficult to find a job in good times much less now. You’re better off doing data analysis or cybersecurity if you have a CS degree. If you don’t have a degree you’re kind of fucked, if your degree is in something else you’re a little less fucked but you will get algorithm’d to oblivion. Just lie on your resume.

Assembly is actually one of the easiest things for AI to generate.

how were you able to comprehend any of it, electricity and circuits absolutely confuse the shit out of me, might as well be black magic to me(had related classes on compsci)

Why is the pay so low? I have a worthless liberal arts degree and I make more than that.
