But I disagree that a homestead is necessary. I'd rather my family has 1 large estate in a great area that's like a "home base" and then many more houses around the world that they can visit as needed. These days I think as long as you have transportation, like a car, and the internet, you can work from just about anywhere in the world you want. I wouldn't want to tie my kids to a specific homestead they have to stay on and maintain. I'd rather they spend a year in Tokyo if they want and the next year in Italy, then maybe San Francisco, etc. But I agree stability and security is critical so they need a "home base".

If we're talking about their childhood, then I agree a place they can safely ride their bikes and visit friends' homes on their own, outside without my supervision, is important.
