If you actually feel like shit for being worth that much it means you need to go live a little. Go on vacation, eat an expensive meal at a nice restaurant, buy yourself a new laptop or whatever. Sure that's opportunity cost, but you might as well die tomorrow, you won't take your money with you. You're at a place where you can actually get a premium bang for your buck, so why not indulge a little?

what the actual f what kind of low iq mouth breather doesn't get the point of having lots of money it's literally all about having the ability to buy really expensive cars and super hot chicks and a massive cocaine habit consumer goods can't buy that kind of luxury in fact no amount of money can buy a decent sense of humor or make up for a small dick like i always say money can't buy happiness but it will get you as high as a kite

Account for inflation and with only 5% yield you are losing money.
With 2M you need to be able to get +15% to keep with inflation and pay your cost of living (middle class) That takes a lot of effort and a lot of balls.
With 10M is much easier

Yeah, so barely enough for myself, my wife, and my kids to survive. He's correct, you need 10 million to retire. It isn't some "pie in the sky" meme goal either. Plenty of us with a few million saved already will absolutely get there. Only the truly poor people here think we're kidding when we say you need about 10 million to retire without worrying. And that's not ultra-super-luxurious retirement either. It's enough to quit your day job and worry less is all.

If I told you that $100 million dollars is poor, but $300 million is rich, you'd think I was crazy because to you those 2 numbers equal roughly the same lifestyle, very roughly.

Many people with under like $50k to their name, especially in countries that are developing and where everything is still incredibly cheap, have the same delusions about $2 million vs. $5 million or even $10 million, but anyone who actually has $1-2 million can tell you it's a world of difference. It's just that to call yourself poor with $2 million is so incredibly insulting to someone who only has like $20k because it's like saying they are absolutely bottom of the barrel dirt poor.

Even 4mil at 5% yield will give you 200k a year, after tax it's like 155k. That's like being in the top 10%, are you really saying that's not enough even if you have a family? Or do you just unironically want a Lambo? It's fine if you do btw, my goals are to have the typical middle class lifestyle while being worth a couple of mils. I don't need 10mil to achieve that.

I wouldn't say 155k is top 10% in a coastal state or major city, but there are certainly areas all over the middle of the country where I would agree. Realistically though 155k is enough to get by with a family, I would agree. That's with going to public school, money for recreational sports, etc., nothing too fancy but a middle class lifestyle yes.

That being said, yeah I do want more luxury. I want the nice car, the constant vacations, the fancy private school for my kids, all that. But I have plenty of friends with kids who don't and they're great people and I have a lot of respect for them.

Actually if you have any data on that I would love to see it. I was looking for it the other day but all I could find was average and median income and net worth data. I want the full spectrum by age and ideally by state or even city, if it exists, not just the average.
