Wasn't viable 10 years ago, but it is now.
The algorithms are designed to promote you automatically, and youtube payouts are huge even, you're making a living already even if you only have 10k subscribers, then it's just upwards from there.
The growth tends to be exponential and is even plotted accurately by services like socailblade. You can plot the trajectory of a channel and have it come true since the sites are using formulas to figure out how to recommend channels based on engagement. it's not like the old days were people need to shill you.

I keep telling myself to do it just for easy money but I don’t even know what I would do. I like climbing, animals, motorcycles and cooking. But I’m not a girl so I don’t get free views and subs. I’m a decent climber, I don’t do anything special on my bike, I cook slightly above normal people. I’m pretty good with animals but I don’t live in a place or country even where I can go and fish for snakes in the Everglades or something.

I usually check out the average views on my hobbies and they’re not that amazing for the time invested and their subs are kinda meh. Plus the production quality is usually pretty high

I’m going on a huge road trip with a motorcycle from Alaska to Florida in the summer and I considered filming with a go pro and making some YouTube series out of it but would people give a shit? I dunno. The trip should cost me all in all like 4-5k if I live on the cheap so maybe with algorithm I can get enough views to pay for the trip? But I might aswel get stuck in less than thousand view hell and it’s nothing more than wasted hours editing of which I’m not that good at anyways
