first time i heard of it was about it´s effects in Ohio or some other US state during the european migrations towards California of the late 19th century, then i knew about Mussolini´s Italy and even the summerians did that 3000 years ago. every single time it leads to man (and now women) to save up less money in their early adult life, and as a consequence they move out later, marry later, start having kids later. it´s almost as bad as consumption taxes

Ok. if your single your brokerage account is slapped with tax if income is over 40k. Since I'm married it's only slapped with tax if income goes over 90k. So that brokerage account could grow to fuck huge amount and still I'd pay zero tax on it. Even after I retire and start pulling RMD's from my 401k long as my taxable income does not exceed 90k a year then the brokerage account will not be taxed. Now consider this; I live in low col state. Uh I won't need hell even 60k a year even in retirement to do what I want to do. So say my yearly RMD is 70k. Pension payout covers let's say 30k a year. 401k RMD supplies other 30k. Leaving 40k of the 70k RMD there for what have you. What do? Hello brokerage account (which is not taxed). This snowball of excess green keeps going. Till death. Some heirs will get a big surprise..

Example time: Your pulling 60k a year. Your Wife is pulling 30k a year. Combined that's 90k. You both roll into 401ks. Taxable income is thus 80,000. Standard deduction drops that further to 56,000. Brokerage account is subject to tax at 90k of taxable income. Leaving 34k of "wiggle room" before the tax man comes for your brokerage holdings. Divvy income is subject to tax. But see above. It'd take a long time before you'd hit 34k of divvy income a year. But what about pay hikes?. Simple. Increase your 401k contributions. Keeps the ratio in check.

Another big bet you could take is a mining development company that has their project in a distressed situation, where they for one reason or other have issues securing permits. Think Northern Dynasty Metals. There are many such cases in the industry albeit NAK is an extreme example, sometimes they get resolved and the stock rerates greatly over time.

I actually order subway quite a bit now just because I'm antisocial and since they introduced the app you can order your subs through it and they just set you order on their to go shelf and you literally don't have to say one word to anyone to get your food. However, there's a local Mexican place nearer to me that makes better burritos with more interesting flavor options. I prefer them.

Do you know how cash secured puts work, anon? What exactly do you think makes it a bigger gamble to earn some premium while waiting for your "discount?" If you just wait for it to drop and then buy you incur the same risk once you have possession of the shares. But you already said you WANT to have a XOM position, you just want it cheaper. Cash secured puts allow you to make some money on the stock while you wait for it to get to that price. We're not talking about betting on small caps here.

Checked
But I just feel really bad when a thread dies before it's been fully used up. Like... we took the effort to bring this thread into the world, but we're not going to give it the dignity of fully using the resources it provides? We're just going to discard it like trash because it's a little bit old?
It's disrespectful...

Point of order: it was much higher a year ago. And the price per share continues to go berserk. I'm through fighting it. Grab some NVDA while you can, watch it like a hawk, and update your stop orders on a regular basis.
